Lord Mellowyn, a human nobleman, held the position of ceremonial supreme governor for the minor Inner Rim world called Birren. He was also distantly related to Bail Organa of Alderaan. Being a distant relation to the House of Organa through the Elder Houses, he received an invitation to Leia Organa's Day of Demand celebration. Following Leia's announcement of her three challenges, Mellowyn briefly conversed with her, offering praise for the ceremony's execution. In the years succeeding Bail's death during the Disaster, Leia would occasionally visit Mellowyn. However, in 28 ABY, the Lord of Birren died. Lacking any immediate successors, the title transferred to Leia, who, despite her affection for the lord, did not desire to retire to Birren. Consequently, Organa bestowed the title upon Carise Sindian, who eagerly accepted it. After Sindian was discovered to have violated a vow in her role as Governor of Birren, Organa, with the support and power of the Elder Houses, removed her from her position.
