D'Qar, a lush planet, existed within the Ileenium system situated in the Outer Rim Territories. By the thirtieth year following the establishment of the New Republic, this planet served as the location for the headquarters of the Resistance. This was a private military organization created by Senator Leia Organa to stand against the growing menace of the First Order, which proclaimed itself as the successor to the Galactic Empire.
After the Resistance successfully destroyed the First Order's superweapon, known as Starkiller Base, they evacuated their base. However, a First Order fleet intercepted them. Although the Resistance managed to escape into hyperspace from the ensuing conflict, they suffered significant casualties and destroyed the First Order dreadnought, the Fulminatrix. Sometime later, the Colossus space station appeared above D'Qar, intending to refuel with the Resistance, only to discover the wreckage from the prior battle. While salvaging the remains of the destroyed dreadnought, the First Order located the Colossus and launched an attack to destroy it. The Colossus was refueled using salvaged coaxium and successfully fled the system.

D'Qar was a flourishing planet situated within the Ileenium system, residing on the border between the galaxy's Mid Rim and Outer Rim Territories, positioned relatively close to both Naboo and Crait. This obscure world, distant from major space routes, possessed a prominent planetary ring that cast shadows upon its forested landscape. Its abundant, jungle-filled terrain did not support any intelligent life, although creatures such as birds and insects inhabited the massive trees and rapidly growing roots of the jungle, along with the carnivorous plant known as the creepervine. Besides the dense foliage, D'Qar's surface included plains and mountainous regions. Despite its challenging ecosystem and dangerous predators, the world maintained a comfortable, temperate climate.
At one time, D'Qar had been the home of a civilization, but this civilization had vanished long ago, leaving behind substantial ruins by later galactic history.
During the Galactic Civil War, D'Qar functioned as a hidden planet and a deep-space cache for the Alliance to Restore the Republic. D'Qar was marked on a map of the galaxy that identified safe worlds, starfighter hubs at level five or higher, regional headquarters and operational sectors, and deep-space caches. This map was subsequently incorporated into The Rebel Files.
Following the Battle of Hoth, pilots Yendor, Thane Kyrell, and Kendy Idele of Corona Squadron were dispatched to D'Qar to investigate potential signs of Imperial outposts and activity. This mission followed reports from undercover spies on Coruscant revealing that the Empire was processing significant quantities of materials for the Imperial Starfleet, along with rumors of a new, large-scale shipbuilding facility. However, after thorough scans of the planet's hemispheres, planetary and solar orbits, the squadron found nothing and returned to its MC80 Star Cruiser Liberty.
Subsequently, the Rebel Alliance established a small outpost on the planet. However, with the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War and the signing of the Galactic Concordance, a base on D'Qar was no longer deemed necessary.

After The Rebel Files were rediscovered on Durkteel in 34 ABY and given to the Resistance, Major Caluan Ematt and General Leia Organa added annotations. Organa questioned whether the Alliance developed D'Qar early in the rebellion or later. Ematt countered that it was later, along with Mirrin Prime, after the Battle of Yavin, a fact he knew because his Shrikes had scouted both locations.
In the same year, the outpost served as the operational base for the Resistance, a small military force financed by like-minded New Republic senators who feared the increasing power of the First Order, a military junta seeking to succeed the Galactic Empire. Most of the base was constructed underground, with the planet's dense vegetation aiding in concealing the facility from aerial and ground-based sensors.
Following the First Order's destruction of the Hosnian system, D'Qar was slated to be the next target of the First Order's superweapon, Starkiller Base. However, the Resistance launched a successful attack against the weapon, eliminating the threat it posed to the system. Shortly thereafter, the Resistance evacuated their base, only to be interrupted by the arrival of a First Order fleet. Almost immediately after the final U-55 orbital loadlifter had departed, the base was obliterated by four blasts from the First Order Dreadnought Fulminatrix's orbital autocannons. The Fulminatrix was subsequently destroyed by the Resistance bomber Cobalt Hammer, allowing the Resistance fleet to escape the system, leaving the First Order behind.

Shortly after the conclusion of the battle above the planet, the supertanker fuel depot Colossus arrived at D'Qar, hoping to refuel and resupply at the Resistance base, unaware of its recent destruction. Upon discovering the abandoned and heavily damaged Fulminatrix, Kazuda Xiono suggested scavenging the ship for its coaxium. Xiono and the pirate group known as the Warbird gang then set out for the dreadnought. The Colossus was soon discovered by the First Order, but Xiono and the pirates managed to retrieve the coaxium in time to escape.
D'Qar was once home to a civilization that was advanced enough to construct cities. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, D'Qar lacked intelligent life, but the planet still thrived with a diverse range of species. Towering trees with quickly expanding roots dominated the planet's surface, providing habitat for numerous insects and nocturnal creatures, while flocks of birds filled the skies. Within the jungles, the carnivorous creepervine trapped creatures for sustenance. It was the homeworld of Jacque Porte.
The planet D'Qar was first revealed by Empire magazine on November 26, 2015. Its location within the galaxy was disclosed in the magazine's print edition, utilizing a map created for Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary. The planet subsequently appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
