A depiction illustrating both the galaxy and its orbiting satellite galaxies.
A galaxy represented an immense aggregation of stars, star systems, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, nebulas, star clusters, black holes, and diverse other cosmic entities situated within the vast expanse of the universe.
One well-known galaxy was the galaxy that served as the home for both the Galactic Republic and the later Galactic Empire. It was also significant for housing the Wellspring of Life, the origin of the midi-chlorians. Certain galaxies possessed smaller, satellite galaxies in orbit around them. The main galaxy had a minimum of two such satellites, with the Rishi Maze being one example.
Huyang indicated that purrgil, the space whales, possessed the capability to traverse between different galaxies by utilizing intergalactic hyperspace routes. The Jedi Order had knowledge of these routes, preserving relevant data within the Jedi Archives. The intergalactic void existed in the space between galaxies. The planet Peridea was located in the so-called far galaxy, and while Jedi figures like Baylan Skoll considered it a myth, the Nightsister Morgan Elsbeth viewed it as historical fact. In this remote galaxy, inhabitants constructed a reflex point on Seatos to indicate the pathway leading to Peridea.

Taka Jamoreesa claimed to be "wanted" across eighteen galaxies when advertising their services as a pilot.
The Mustafarian [Bright Star](/article/bright_star] artifact, when wielded by Darth Vader, possessed the power to destroy entire galaxies, with the Sith Lord sacrificing their vitality in his relentless pursuit of power.
During the Liberation of Lothal, a group of purrgil transported Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Jedi rebel Ezra Bridger to Peridea. Seven years later, during the era of the New Republic, Morgan Elsbeth oversaw the construction of a massive hyperspace ring known as the Eye of Sion with the intention of bringing Thrawn back to the known galaxy. Ahsoka Tano also discovered a star map at a former Nightsister stronghold located on Arcana, which charted a course to Peridea's galaxy. [Sabine Wren](/article/sabine_wren] succeeded in unlocking the map, but it was subsequently stolen by Shin Hati, an agent serving Elsbeth.
Following a duel on Seatos with Tano and Wren, Baylan Skoll deciphered the star map and transmitted the coordinates for the pathway to Peridea to Elsbeth. Elsbeth's forces then embarked on the Eye of Sion toward Peridea, taking Wren as a captive. Utilizing the pathway, Elsbeth's forces arrived at Peridea, where they established contact with the Great Mothers and Thrawn's forces. Over the next three cycles, they proceeded to load caskets from the catacombs situated beneath the Great Mothers' Fortress.
Subsequently, Tano and Huyang journeyed to the far galaxy with a purrgil pod and were reunited with Wren and Bridger, who had risen to become the leader of a Noti clan. After a clash with Tano, Wren, and Bridger, Thrawn, the Great Mothers, and his Star Destroyer Chimaera successfully escape Peridea and returned to their home galaxy via the Eye of Sion. While Tano, Wren, and Huyang were left stranded on Peridea, Bridger managed to stow away aboard the Chimaera and was reunited with General Hera Syndulla.
