Diet

Brown-Rathtar-SWCT Rathtars were a species of non-sentient carnivores The diet of an organism described the types of food it consumed. Herbivores and carnivores were two types of diets.

Flesh was the primary food source for carnivores. Examples of non-sentient carnivores included the krayt dragon and the colo claw fish from Naboo. However, sentient species like the Zabraks and Pau'ans also had carnivorous diets. Because of the scarcity of plantlife, carnivorous diets were typical in colder climates. To compensate for the lack of soil nutrients, some unusual plant species like carnivorous plants such as the reeksa evolved to catch and eat live prey.

Plant-eating lifeforms, such as the bantha, ikopi, happabore, and shaak all consumed plants.

Omnivores were creatures that consumed both plant and animal-based foods. The reek, a large, muscular omnivore from the planet Ylesia, was naturally herbivorous but could live off of meat. Vulptices from Crait foraged for small mammals and tubers beneath the salt crust of their world.

Some species, such as certain birds on Jelucan and the crab gliders that lived on the gas giant Bespin, were scavengers that consumed decaying organic material and waste.

Geophagia, or the consumption of inorganic materials, was practiced by other species. The fire rats of Mustafar were one example of this; they were known to chew on the lava crystals of the hellish planet. Some species consumed energy. Conduit worms consumed the electrical wiring found in starships, while mynocks used their mouths to absorb electrical, stellar, and electromagnetic energy.
