Warbird gang

The Warbird gang, a pirate group led by Captain Kragan Gorr, operated during the New Republic era. They secretly collaborated with the First Order, staging attacks on the Colossus fueling station on the planet Castilon as part of their arrangement. Simultaneously, the First Order publicly denounced the pirates' actions.

Their alliance with the First Order fractured when the latter employed the pirates to abduct Captain Imanuel Doza's daughter, Torra Doza, in an attempt to coerce him into accepting First Order protection. Subsequently, the Warbirds allied with Team Colossus to drive out the First Order forces and then fled into space.

Furthermore, the gang played a role in recovering the remains of the Fulminatrix over D'Qar and pursuing a large jakoosk on Celsor 3. Relations between the Warbirds and Captain Doza deteriorated after First Order operative Nenavakasa Nalor falsely accused the Warbirds of stealing the station's power as part of a scheme to seize the Colossus. Later, Kragan attempted a rebellion on the Colossus, but Synara, Neeku Vozo, and Kazuda Xiono thwarted it. Following Synara's advice, the pirates were banished from the Colossus.

Description

The Galleon

The Warbirds were a diverse group of pirates comprising various species. Their assets included multiple starships and vehicles, such as starfighters, speeder bikes, and airspeeders. Their base of operations was a sail barge named the Galleon, which was also equipped for hyperspace travel.

History

Captain Kragan Gorr, leader of the Warbirds.

Proxies of the First Order

During the era of the New Republic, the Warbird gang, a pirate organization headed by Captain Kragan Gorr, was active on the water-covered world of Castilon. The First Order enlisted them to attack the Colossus refueling station. The First Order's intention was to persuade Captain Imanuel Doza, the leader of the Colossus, to accept their protection. The real goal was to use the Colossus as a military supply route for their invasion of the galaxy.

A pirate named Hallion Nark visited the Colossus, claiming he needed repairs for his starship. He secretly informed Kragan about an impending triple dark storm. The Warbirds launched an attack under the cover of the storm, causing some damage. However, they were forced to retreat when Kazuda Xiono, a Resistance spy, jammed their communications. Kragan punished Nark for losing his comlink and endangering their mission.

Assault in Sector Six

The Warbirds raided a Darius G-class freighter.

Later, several Warbirds, including Synara San, attacked a Darius G-class fighter in Sector six of the Castilon system. However, the freighter was transporting several Kowakian ape-lizards, which attacked the pirates and devoured at least two of them. Synara survived by hiding in a crate. Xiono and Commander Poe Dameron of the Resistance rescued Synara and brought her back to the Colossus. As a result, Captain Kragan gained a spy on the Colossus.

Undercover on the Colossus

Synara became the Warbirds' spy on the Colossus.

Synara secured employment as a scavenger in the Colossus loading docks, allowing her to maintain her cover as a pirate spy. After learning that the Colossus' turbolaser defense system was offline and that Ace Squadron was away, Synara contacted Captain Kragan. She also provided Kaz and his Team Fireball with a tri-tracker chip for the turbolaser system's tracking computer. Kragan and the Warbirds then launched a daylight raid on the Colossus.

Despite strong resistance from the pirates, Kaz and Yeager managed to restore the tracking computer to the turbolaser system, forcing the pirates to retreat. Synara also maintained her cover and formed a friendship with Tamara Ryvora, who helped her fight off pirates in the Colossus loading docks. This raid prompted Captain Doza to reconsider the First Order's offer of protection.

Later, Synara provided the Colossus merchants Flix and Orka with a chest of thermal detonators, which they accidentally activated. Synara offered to sell them a new chest as compensation.

The Bibo Incident

Before the Bibo incident, Captain Kragan informed Synara that the two pilots who brought her to the Colossus, including Kaz, were members of the Resistance. Synara took Kaz out on her salvaging skiff to sea to question him. However, they were interrupted by a giant sea monster, the rokkna, who turned out to be Bibo's mother searching for her child Bibo. Kaz and Synara warned Captain Doza, who shielded the Colossus and deployed Ace Squadron. Bibo's mother retreated after Kaz's colleague and friend Neeku Vozo returned the infant to her.

Kidnapping Torra Doza

Members of the Warbird gang with the captured Torra Doza

Commander Pyre, seeking to persuade Captain Doza to accept First Order "protection," hired Captain Kragan to kidnap his daughter Torra Doza. Kragan agreed in exchange for Pyre tripling their payment. Kragan sent Drell and Valik in a shipping container and tasked Synara San with smuggling them into Doza Tower, the Doza family residence.

Although Valik and Drell succeeded in abducting Torra, Synara had a change of heart and alerted Kaz and Captain Doza. Despite efforts by Kaz and Ace Squadron to pursue the pirates, Valik and Drell managed to bring Torra aboard the Galleon. When Major Elrik Vonreg and several stormtroopers arrived to negotiate with Kragan, they instead rescued Torra and turned on the Warbirds. Consequently, Kragan declared that the Warbirds' alliance with the First Order was over. Following the kidnapping attempt, Kaz began to suspect Synara's connection to the pirates.

An Unlikely Friend

After the First Order occupied the Colossus, Synara San found it difficult to leave the refueling platform due to a First Order lockdown. With the First Order hunting her, Synara received help from an unexpected source: Kaz. Although Kaz knew she was a member of the Warbird pirate gang, he decided to help her escape because he considered her a friend. With the assistance of Kaz, Neeku, and BB-8, Synara fled to the lower levels of the ship and escaped in an escape pod. Synara then met with Kragan's skiff at sea.

From Enemies to Allies

During a mission to contact the Resistance, Valik picked up Kaz's transmission, which he played to Kragan and the other pirates, including Synara.

After intercepting a transmission from Kazuda Xiono about the First Order's occupation of the Colossus, the Warbird gang joined forces with Team Colossus during the escape of the space station to retaliate against the Order for betraying them. The gang and resistance group ultimately succeeded in escaping aboard the Colossus.

Fleeing into Space

Following the Colossus' departure into space, Kragan Gorr and his pirates socialized with the Colossus residents in Aunt Z's Tavern despite the zero gravity. Meanwhile, the First Order initiated a hunt for the Colossus, seeking to recover the station or destroy it if recovery proved impossible.

With the Colossus experiencing a shortage of basic supplies, Kaz and Synara convinced Kragan and the Warbirds to assist with a mission to salvage coaxium from the wreckage of the Fulminatrix over D'Qar in exchange for weapons and technology from the wrecked ship. Although the Colossus was pursued by the Thunderer, they managed to recover the coaxium, enabling the Colossus to escape into hyperspace.

The Hunting Expedition

Later, the Warbirds accompanied Kaz and Torra on a hunting expedition on the planet Celsor 3 to hunt a large jakoosk. At Skreek's suggestion, the pirates began throwing explosives onto the surface to lure out the creature. However, the jakoosk attacked them, downing Snarl and Drell's airspeeder. Although the pirates gave up, Kaz, Torra, and CB-23 returned and hunted down the jakoosk with the help of Buggles. Snarl and Drell stole Kaz and Torra's starships but were later forced to apologize by Synara, Kaz's closest friend among the pirates.

Rising Tensions

Nena Nalor accuses the pirates of stealing the station's power.

The First Order hired a Nikto engineer, Nenavakasa Nalor, who created division between the Warbird pirates and the Colossus residents by fabricating evidence that the pirates had been stealing energy from the ship. Falling for Nena's sabotage plot, Captain Doza sent Kaz to investigate. However, Synara caught him and convinced him to investigate Nena. The two discovered that Nena was a saboteur hired by the First Order, but the Nikto escaped. When the First Order caught up with the Colossus, Kaz convinced Kragan to disconnect the pirate's power source to help the station escape.

Later, the Nikto pirate Leoz, jealous of Kaz's winning streak, cursed him during a gambling game. Kaz interpreted a series of accidents as a sign that he was cursed, reinforced by his superstitious friend Neeku Vozo. After failing to get Leoz to lift the curse, Kaz overcame his anxieties with the help of Mika Grey, who gave him a talisman. Kaz then played a prank on the superstitious Leoz.

Synara's New Allegiance

Due to her gun skills and close friendship with Kaz, Kaz and Yeager enlisted Synara as a gunslinger for their mission to rescue the Duros Resistance agent Norath Kev on the planet Varkana. This led to conflict with the bounty hunter Ax Tagrin, who fought Synara and Yeager.

Tagrin captured Synara, Yeager, and the astromech droid CB-23, handing them over to the First Order for interrogation. Yeager tried to protect Synara when she was being tortured by Agent Tierny of the First Order Security Bureau. Kaz and Norath rescued Synara and Yeager with CB-23's help and escaped, linking up with Ace Squadron and the Colossus.

Mutiny Against Doza

The Warbird gang turning on Doza and his command of the ship.

Despite living together, tensions persisted between Kragan and Captain Doza. Doza despised the pirates, while Kragan resented Doza for refusing to treat him with the respect he felt he deserved as "captain." Kragan and several pirates took an unauthorized trip aboard the Galleon to meet with Sidon Ithano, the "Crimson Corsair." Kragan purchased several B2-series super battle droids as part of his plan to launch a mutiny against Captain Doza.

Captain Doza was displeased that the Warbirds had left without informing him and confined them to their hangar. He and Yeager assigned the mechanic Neeku Vozo to spy on the pirates. Kragan recruited Neeku to repair their super battle droids, claiming they were security units to reinforce the Colossus' security droids. Suspecting Kragan was plotting something, Synara warned Kaz.

After Neeku repaired the battle droids, Kragan locked him in a cell for his own "safety." The Warbirds then captured Synara and Kaz, who had been spying on them. The Warbirds and their droids launched their mutiny, capturing the corridors, Ace Squadron, and taking Captain Doza, Yeager, and 4D-M1N captive. Kragan intended to force them to walk off the hangar into space.

However, Neeku had anticipated Kragan's plot and secretly programmed the B1-series battle droid "B1" to free them. Under Neeku's orders, B1 took control of the super battle droids and disarmed the Warbirds, except for Synara. Captain Doza wanted to imprison the pirates, but Synara convinced him to exile her former associates aboard the Galleon, with its hyperdrive disabled and weapons removed. Kragan was bitter that Synara had sided with her Colossus friends, but she considered her debt to him settled and believed that exile was more merciful.
