Buggles

Buggles, a male voorpak, belonged to Torra Doza, who resided on the Colossus platform, situated on the planet of Castilon. Despite Torra usually keeping him in her quarters, Buggles stayed faithfully by her side. He found himself swept into several minor adventures aboard the Colossus. During the Battle of Castilon, Buggles played a part in helping Torra locate Kazuda Xiono, the leader of Team Colossus.

Biography

Background

Torra Doza, the teenage daughter of Captain Imanuel Doza (the administrator of the Colossus station), owned Buggles as a pet voorpak. Doza enjoyed spending her free time playing with and relaxing alongside Buggles. On one occasion, BB-8 encountered Buggles roaming freely in the Colossus marketplace, and Buggles then trailed him into Aunt Z's Tavern. Subsequently, Buggles nearly caused Lin Gaava to trip as she exited her booth.

Torra's gilded cage

Later, Torra, frustrated by her father's confinement of her to her bedroom, used Buggles as a means of escape from the droid 4D-M1N. She handed Buggles to the droid, claiming he needed to go outside to prevent an indoor accident. Once 4D-M1N had left, Torra, having figured out the passcode, snuck out of her room. However, Buggles spotted her over 4D's shoulder and reacted, giving away her presence in the hallway. Buggles then urinated on the floor, preventing the droid from pursuing Torra. Later, when Torra returned to her room with Kazuda Xiono, Buggles was present as they played Flight Simulator Squadron. After Xiono departed Doza Tower following a series of events, Torra cuddled her pet, pondering what he might be hiding.

Running circles around Xiono

At a later point, Torra requested that Xiono look after Buggles at Jarek Yeager's Repair Station while she was occupied. However, the Voorpak managed to escape Xiono's watch, first devouring the contents of a bowl before scampering outside and onto the precarious structures at the edge of the platform, with Xiono giving chase. Just as he was about to catch Buggles, the pet bounded off again, much to Xiono's dismay. When Torra returned, looking for Buggles, Xiono avoided answering her question about his whereabouts. The voorpak had managed to get inside the cockpit of the Fireball, and launched the starship by randomly pressing buttons. Torra demanded to know who was piloting the ship, and Xiono was forced to confess that it was Buggles, much to her horror.

Torra's kidnapping

When Torra invited her friends Kaz, Tamara Ryvora, and the undercover pirate spy Synara San to her room for a game of Drone-Blaster, Buggles was there. Later that night, Buggles was in Torra's room when the pirates Drell and Valik broke into the room and kidnapped Torra. The First Order, who orchestrated the kidnapping, subsequently rescued Torra and used the incident as leverage to force Captain Doza to permit the First Order to occupy the Colossus.

The First Order Occupation

During the First Order's occupation of the Colossus, Buggles remained faithfully by Torra's side. While a group of stormtroopers marched past Torra's quarters, Buggles was sitting next to her. Among these stormtroopers was Kaz, undercover, who had stolen a data rod from the First Order containing intelligence regarding their fleet movements.

When Neeku Vozo, Kaz, Jarek Yeager, and the Chelidae deliberately sank the Colossus to disable the First Order's jammer and contact the Resistance, Torra hurried to her quarters, Buggles in tow.

Liberation of the Colossus

After Commander Pyre placed Captain Doza under arrest, Torra dispatched Buggles on a mission to locate Xiono within the Colossus. Buggles successfully found Kaz and the BB-series astromech droid CB-23, leading them to the trapdoor where Torra was concealed. Following a skirmish with the First Order BB series droid MB-13A, Torra, Kaz, and CB-23 embarked on a mission to liberate Yeager, Captain Doza, and Tam Ryvora.

Stowaway

During the mission to Celsor 3, Buggles, much to Kazuda's annoyance, stowed away aboard the Fireball. During the encounter with the jakoosk, Buggles took off, prompting Torra to give chase. After Kaz brought down the jakoosk, Buggles reappeared, climbing atop the creature before Torra picked him up.

Victory

Following the rescue of Tamara Ryvora, Buggles joined a number of Colossus inhabitants, including Aunt Z, Bolza Grool, Opeepit, Garma, Mika Grey, Kel, Eila, and Grevel, in celebrating the defeat of the First Order forces that had been pursuing them.

Personality and traits

Buggles, a male Voorpak, possessed tan fur and blue eyes. He was known for being playful, somewhat mischievous, and shared a strong bond with his owner, Torra Doza. He also grew fond of Torra's friend, Kazuda Xiono, often jumping on him and licking his face, much to Kazuda's dismay. He displayed sufficient intelligence to locate Kaz and guide him to Torra during the Escape of the Colossus.

Behind the scenes

Buggles was initially mentioned in the 2018 book titled Star Wars: Women of the Galaxy, authored by Amy Ratcliffe. Buggles made his debut appearance in the Star Wars Resistance episode titled "Secrets and Holograms," which premiered on December 2, 2018. Buggles' design drew inspiration from concept art created by Terryl Whitlatch for Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The title of the short "Buggle's Day Out," which features him prominently, contains a misspelling of his name due to an misplaced apostrophe.
