Jakoosks were massive creatures, indigenous to the icy moon Celsor 3, with the capability to both fly and burrow beneath snow. Possessing a robust, gray hide, they could withstand assaults from starfighter cannons, though their underbelly was less protected; a direct hit from a blaster cannon there would prove fatal. Their anatomy included a sizable mouth filled with equally large teeth, and multiple sets of pincer-like appendages on their lower bodies, which they employed to seize prey and pull it into their mouths.
The cooked meat of a jakoosk was palatable to various species, including humans, Gilliands, Gamorreans, Gozzos, Chadra-Fan, Theelins, and Nautolans. This information was not widely known, as evidenced by the surprise expressed by both Kazuda Xiono and Jarek Yeager when they learned that jakoosk meat was edible.
During combat training exercises conducted by the Ace Squadron on the moon, a jakoosk was disturbed and subsequently attacked the squadron. Hype Fazon became the initial pilot targeted by the beast, but was freed when Torra Doza toppled an ice pillar onto the creature. Shortly thereafter, the same jakoosk ensnared Jarek Yeager within his fighter, only to be freed by the other Aces who collapsed another ice pillar upon the creature.
The jakoosk that threatened the Aces was later hunted with the goal of providing sustenance for the Colossus platform, initially by the Warbird gang. Disregarding Kazuda Xiono's warnings about the creature, the Warbird gang returned to the Colossus without success. Subsequently, Xiono and Torra Doza ventured back to Celsor 3 to hunt the jakoosk again. After the jakoosk briefly disabled the cannon intended to subdue it, Xiono, by using CB-23 as a substitute power source, successfully brought the jakoosk down. Aunt Z then prepared the jakoosk's remains as food.
The first appearance of a jakoosk was in the Star Wars Resistance episode "Live Fire." In the early stages of the episode's development, the jakoosk was simply referred to as "ice creature" and was initially conceived as a thranta inspired by designs from Ralph McQuarrie. As the creature evolved, it was temporarily called an "ice brith" in a script draft before ultimately being named "jakoosk."
