Gamorrean

Gamorreans, often insultingly referred to as "pigs," represented a sentient species characterized by their green skin and pig-like humanoid form. Their origins can be traced back to the Outer Rim planet known as Gamorr. These beings organized themselves into distinct clans, each governed by a warlord in conjunction with a Clan Matron. Notably, a significant number of Gamorreans found employment under the notorious crime lord Jabba the Hutt, serving as guards throughout his illicit activities.

Biology and appearance

Gamorreans had porcine features.

The Gamorreans, a species distinguished by their tall stature and muscular build, exhibited porcine characteristics. These traits included a distinctive upturned snout with prominent nostrils composed of cartilage, along with jowls and upward-pointing tusks. Gamorrean infants possessed temporary teeth that caused discomfort before eventually falling out. Their robust bodies were covered in thick, hairless skin, typically green in hue, though rare instances of pink pigmentation were observed. Each limb terminated in five digits, each bearing a sturdy nail. Their hands featured an opposable thumb, granting them the ability to easily manipulate objects. This species exhibited sexual dimorphism, with males referred to as boars and females as sows. The term "pig" was often used by other species as a derogatory label for Gamorreans.

Society and culture

Gamorrean society was structured around clans. Each clan's leadership consisted of a female, the Clan Matron, and a male, the Warlord. Despite the sows engaging in farming and hunting while the boars engaged in warfare, Gamorrean society was fundamentally matriarchal. A Warlord's authority was derived from his marriage to a Matron, rather than through conquest, although Matrons considered combat prowess when selecting their partners. Gamorreans revered war, and conflicts between clans were commonplace.

Due to their limited intellect, Gamorreans were generally known for their stubbornness and unwavering loyalty. Their philosophical approach favored brute force as the solution to any problem. They possessed their own unique language, which sounded like a series of grunts and squeals to outsiders. While they could comprehend other languages, such as Galactic Basic Standard, they struggled with pronunciation. Gamorreans appreciated the use of swear words from their language, frequently employing insults directed at others and their families. Their fondness for vulgarity meant that they were not always offended when they were called "pigs."

From a technological standpoint, Gamorreans were primitive, preferring melee weapons such as vibro-axes, vibro-lances, and Gamorrean battle-axes over blasters. They never independently achieved space travel. Furthermore, Gamorrean boars often neglected personal hygiene, rarely changing their attire or cleaning the mucus from their snouts. Gamorreans cleared portions of their native forest environment to create space for farming.

History

The Gamorreans' evolutionary origins are rooted in the Outer Rim Territories on the planet of Gamorr.

Criminal agents and other passions

Gamorreans operating beyond their homeworld were a common sight, often serving as mercenaries or enforcers for various crime lords. These enforcers were sometimes referred to as Gamorrean Warriors, or Gamorrean Guards. A particularly notable example was the employment of Gamorrean guards by the Hutt gangster Jabba Desilijic Tiure throughout his criminal career. The broader Hutt Clan, which encompassed Jabba's criminal empire, also utilized Gamorrean Guards, including on their capital world of Nal Hutta. The Hutt crime lord Bokku was another who employed Gamorreans.

As mercenaries, Gamorrean Warriors were willing to work for a diverse range of factions, including both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire. Once hired, Gamorreans often demonstrated remarkable loyalty to their employers. In an unusual instance, a Gamorrean worked as a clown for Preigo's Traveling World of Wonder during the Clone Wars. Gamorreans frequently served as powerful combatants in underground gladiator matches. In 9 ABY, two Gamorreans engaged in a vibro-axe duel for entertainment in one such arena. A Gamorrean named Gork was affiliated with Kragan Gorr's Warbird gang of pirates.

Among Jabba the Hutt's Gamorrean Guards, two guards survived both Jabba's demise and that of his successor, Bib Fortuna. These two guards displayed exceptional loyalty to both of their leaders. They were brought before Fortuna's usurper, the former bounty hunter and self-proclaimed Daimyo Boba Fett, who offered them continued employment in exchange for the same loyalty they had shown previously. The Gamorreans quickly submitted to Fett and assisted him in consolidating his control over the planet Tatooine, ultimately meeting their end at the Battle of Mos Espa.

Creations of Restin

Cranwell, according to a story told by Vaneé, became an artificial Gamorrean.

According to a story recounted by Acolyte of the Beyond Vaneé, sometime after the destruction of the planet Alderaan, Doctor Restin of the Tarkin Initiative vowed vengeance against the Sith Lord Darth Vader for the deaths of his loved ones. Enlisting the aid of his droids, he developed a genetic serum that, upon injection, would transform the subject into a Gamorrean upon hearing a specific soundwave: a Gamorrean squeal. This transformation was contagious through physical contact. Upon discovering this, the scientist's assistant, Cranwell, contacted Vader's Star Destroyer to alert him to Restin's treachery and attempted to halt the doctor's work, resulting in his capture. When Vader arrived, pretending ignorance of the doctor's true intentions, and after witnessing Restin transform Cranwell into a Gamorrean, suggested they could weaponize the infection against the Rebel Alliance. Restin then unleashed his unstable Gamorrean upon the Sith Lord.

The former assistant converted Vader's stormtroopers into Gamorreans, but the Dark Lord of the Sith effortlessly used the Force to lift the infected and Restin into the air. After compelling the scientist to confess, Vader revealed that he had only come to witness Restin's downfall firsthand. He then used the Force to hurl the Gamorreans into the doctor, causing them to infect their creator. Vader then departed aboard his Lambda-class T-4a shuttle, leaving the infected Restin at the mercy of his creations. In recounting the story, Vaneé explained that Vader had not feared becoming a Gamorrean because, in his words, Vader was already a monster.
