Restin, a scientist from Alderaan and a human male, was involved in the Tarkin Initiative. After the Disaster that befell his homeworld and the Battle of Yavin, Restin swore to exact revenge on the Sith Lord Darth Vader because of his family's demise on Alderaan. To achieve this retribution, Restin, along with his droids and his aide, Cranwell, engineered a genetic serum designed to be triggered by a particular sound frequency.
Having been alerted to Restin's scheme by Cranwell, Lord Vader paid Restin a visit. Upon Vader's arrival, Restin showcased the serum's effects by using it on Cranwell. Following Cranwell's metamorphosis into a Gamorrean, Restin exposed his betrayal by instructing Cranwell to assault Vader and his accompanying stormtroopers. Although Vader's stormtroopers were defeated, Vader employed a force choke on Restin, coercing him to acknowledge his act of treason. Even with this admission, Restin did not escape Vader's vengeance. Instead, Restin was abandoned to the mercies of Cranwell and the remaining stormtroopers. He was forcibly transformed into a Gamorrean and subsequently attacked by other Gamorreans as Vader departed, leaving them to suffer their destiny.
