Ace Squadron, also referred to as the Aces, functioned as a racer and starfighter squadron. They were also employed by the Colossus refueling station as its primary defense force during the era of the New Republic. The squadron's roster included the five pilots Hype Fazon, Freya Fenris, Griff Halloran, Bo Keevil, and Torra Doza. In addition to their defensive and escort duties, Ace Squadron actively participated in the station's numerous racing events.
The starfighter squadron known as Ace Squadron was responsible for the defense of the Colossus refueling station located on the planet Castilon, as well as the escort of vital cargo shipments. The handling of critical shipments was also within their purview. The squadron's membership consisted of the seven most skilled pilots at the facility—Jarek Yeager, Hype Fazon, Torra Doza, Kazuda Xiono, Freya Fenris, Griff Halloran, and Bo Keevil—who were regarded as some of the best pilots in the galaxy. Beyond their security responsibilities, Ace Squadron was also known for engaging in competitive starship racing as a recreational activity.
Ace Squadron utilized seven racers that also functioned as starfighters: Fazon's Green Ace, Doza's Blue Ace, Xiono’s Fireball, Yeager’s ship, Fenris' Red Ace, Halloran's Black Ace, and Keevil's Yellow Ace. The members of Ace Squadron resided in the opulent Doza Tower, where they enjoyed relaxation in the Aces' Lounge.

During the New Republic Era, Ace Squadron played a crucial role in defending the Colossus from an attack launched by Captain Kragan Gorr's pirate group, the Warbird gang. While Ace Squadron was providing escort for a crucial supply shipment, the Warbird gang initiated another attack on the Colossus, but they were successfully repelled by Team Fireball and the undercover pirate Synara San. This subsequent attack prompted Captain Imanuel Doza to contemplate the proposal put forth by the First Order. Later, Ace Squadron actively participated in the defense of the Colossus against the enraged rokkna mother who was in search of her offspring, Bibo, during the "Bibo incident."
In addition to their defensive obligations, Ace Squadron engaged in various races, including a race against Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono and the Platform Classic which featured Marcus Speedstar, a renowned racing champion in the galaxy. One of their members, Torra, who is also Captain Doza’s daughter, was abducted by the Warbird gang at the behest of the First Order in exchange for triple their usual compensation. Although her comrades pursued the pirates, the First Order intervened and rescued Torra. This event compelled Captain Doza to agree to the First Order's military occupation of the Colossus.

Following the arrival of the First Order at the Colossus with the intention of providing security, all races were suspended, and all starfighters were grounded. Fazon voiced his opposition and was subsequently arrested by stormtroopers. However, he managed to escaped captivity with the assistance of Xiono and Torra. When Team Colossus, led by Xiono, deliberately submerged the Colossus in the ocean to convey a message to General Leia Organa, Ace Squadron promptly manned their stations.
After the Colossus was sunk, Stormtrooper Commander Pyre ordered the imprisonment of Ace Squadron, considering them a threat to the First Order after Captain Doza was detained for insubordination. Nevertheless, Torra managed to escape and joined forces with Xiono. After Team Colossus successfully reclaimed the station, Ace Squadron, along with Xiono and his friend Jarek Yeager, engaged in a dogfight against First Order starfighters during the Colossus' escape from Castilon. Subsequently, they escaped with the Colossus into hyperspace with the intention of joining the Resistance.

Shortly thereafter, the Colossus' hyperdrive exhausted its supply of coaxium, leaving it stranded three parsecs away from D'Qar while their supplies dwindled, and the First Order persisted in their efforts to capture or destroy the station.
After struggling to reach the Ileenium system, the crew came across the remnants of a fierce battle and the Resistance base. Xiono devised a strategy to recover coaxium from the wreckage of a dreadnought that had been destroyed by the allies of his mentor, Commander Poe Dameron. Once Pyre's Star Destroyer arrived in the system, Ace Squadron was mobilized to protect the salvage team from TIE fighters. After the team returned to the Colossus and replenished the hyperdrive's fuel, Ace Squadron returned to the station, enabling them to escape back into hyperspace.

Eventually, following the Skirmish over D'Qar, Xiono was inducted as their newest member, and Yeager assumed the role of their new Squadron Leader, allowing the others to hone their skills as combat pilots. Their initial training exercise proved to be a disaster, with the two newcomers gaining the upper hand on the Squadron. After Yeager divided them into pairs, they learned to coordinate their actions, ultimately rescuing their new Squadron Leader after his ship was ensnared by a jakoosk. Following a failed attempt by the Warbird gang to hunt the jakoosk, Kaz, Torra, and his astromech droid CB-23 collaborated to successfully capture it, providing sufficient meat for the inhabitants of the Colossus.
After the depot was sabotaged by the mercenary Nenavakasa Nalor, Ace Squadron was dispatched to defend it from Pyre's Star Destroyer while the engineering team worked to restore its functionality.

Later, Xiono, along with fellow Ace pilots Torra and Freya and their droids, undertook a supply mission to the planet Ashas Ree. Kel and Eila secretly boarded Xiono's shuttle. Together with Xiono and CB-23, they explored a local Sith temple and rescued an archaeologist named Mika Grey. Subsequently, the group was captured by a group of First Order Raiders led by Agent Raith, but they were saved by Grey, who activated a Sith relic that eliminated the raiders. Grey accompanied the Aces, Kel, and Eila back to the Colossus.
Subsequently, Doza directed the station to conceal itself in the Outer Rim Territories. As they deployed a beacon at a designated rendezvous point, Ace Squadron was compelled to defend it until they were forced to retreat, returning to the station to escape.

In an effort to acquire credits for the Colossus and due to growing boredom, members of Ace Squadron consented to race against the racing droids owned by Vranki, the Hutt businessman who was Hype's former employer. During the Voxx Vortex 5000, the Aces were systematically outmaneuvered by Vranki, who employed unethical tactics to secure victories in the various stages of the race. In the final stage, Vranki placed a bid on the entire Colossus and the Aces. However, Xiono successfully outsmarted him with the assistance of Vozo, who utilized his technical expertise to overcome Vranki's droid algorithms. Consequently, Vranki was forced to release Ace Squadron and awarded the Colossus half a million credits.

As the Colossus continued to remain hidden in the Outer Rim Territories, the station traversed through Guavian Death Space. Their home was attacked by the Gang, and when Captain Doza refused to concede to their demands, Ace Squadron was mobilized. Guided by Kaz's instructions, they successfully neutralized all the attacking fighter ships.
After Xiono, Yeager, San, and CB-23 embarked on a mission to rescue fellow Resistance spy Norath Kev on the planet Varkana, Ace Squadron, led by Torra, escorted Xiono's team and Kev offworld. Ace Squadron also engaged in combat with several TIE fighters. Subsequently, the Colossus evacuated them from the planet.

Later, Ace Squadron explored the oceanic planet of Aeos Prime, which Captain Doza intended to establish as the Colossus’ new home. Xiono and CB-23 accompanied Griff and his astromech droid R5-G9. While scouting a nearby island, they encountered several indigenous Aeosians, who initially reacted with hostility, blaming the offworlders for a recent First Order attack on their village. Meanwhile, Freya and Bo Keevil were engaged in a dogfight with Aeosians riding Krakavora. Xiono managed to persuade the Aeosian Queen that the Colossus did not pose a threat by healing one of their members. Consequently, the Aeosian Queen commanded her people to stand down and established peace with Captain Doza. She granted the Colossus permission to remain for as long as they desired.

While residing on Aeos Prime, Ace Squadron resumed their racing activities on the oceanic planet, which possessed an environment similar to that of Castilon. Subsequently, Xiono departed on the Fireball with CB-23 to rendezvous with the Resistance, as he felt compelled to join the fight and prevent the First Order from causing others to lose everything, as they had done to him during the Hosnian Cataclysm. However, he was forced to abandon his plan after encountering a spider probe droid in space, which alerted Commander Pyre and First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny to their presence. Ace Squadron, along with Xiono, subsequently participated in a battle against First Order forces, successfully downing several TIE fighters and TIE/se Bombers. With the assistance of their Aeosian allies, the inhabitants of the Colossus managed to escape into hyperspace.

Following a plea for assistance from Captain Doza's wife and Torra’s mother, Commander Venisa Doza, and Jade Squadron, Ace Squadron accompanied Jade Squadron on a mission to breach the First Order's blockade of Dantooine and evacuate three shuttles carrying Resistance recruits. During the mission, the convoy came under attack from the Thunderer, resulting in the destruction of one of the shuttles. After the convoy returned to the Colossus with the Resistance recruits, Captain Doza permitted his wife’s forces to remain and resolved to utilize the Colossus to aid the Resistance, as he was finished with evading the conflict.

During a mission led by Xiono, Yeager, and CB-23 to rescue Tamara Ryvora from the First Order, the last remnant of the Galactic Empire intercepted the Colossus in the Barabesh system. Ace and Jade Squadrons, along with San, participated in the defense of the Colossus, engaging TIE fighters and the Thunderer. After CB-23 disabled the Star Destroyer's shields, the two Squadrons targeted and destroyed the ship's engines, resulting in its destruction. Following the defeat of the First Order’s hunting party, Captain, Doza and the Ace and Jade Squadrons joined the former Squadron’s two members and Ryvora in celebrating her homecoming. Several months later, Ace Squadron and Captain Doza joined a Citizens' Fleet assembled by General Lando Calrissian to assist the Resistance in achieving victory in the decisive battle against the Sith Eternal's forces on the planet Exegol in the Unknown Regions.
Ace Squadron was conceived and developed for the animated series Star Wars Resistance. The initial footage featuring the squad was unveiled on August 17, 2018. Additional details concerning the pilots who comprised the squadron were disclosed on September 14, 2018.
