Varkana, situated within the Outer Rim Territories, was a planet characterized by its rocky desert terrain. A key location on Varkana was Vargo Spaceport. In the wake of the Hosnian Cataclysm which occurred in 34 ABY, a Resistance operative was stationed on this world.
Kazuda Xiono aboard the Colossus, managed to intercept an encoded transmission originating from Norath Kev, a Resistance spy. Following this, Kaz expressed to Captain Doza his desire to locate this spy. Doza, however, was skeptical, suggesting the transmission might be a snare. Jarek Yeager also volunteered to participate in the mission, accompanied by CB-23. Upon Doza's approval, Kaz decided to include Synara San in their group. Utilizing an orange and white transport, they journeyed to Vargo Spaceport.
Upon their arrival at Vargo Spaceport, Kaz requested CB-23 to pinpoint the source of the Resistance signal. CB-23 informed Kaz that the signal's origin was located on the other side of the settlement. Jarek Yeager cautioned Kaz to maintain discretion. Kaz responded by asserting his supposed expertise in stealth, claiming to be a proficient spy. Ironically, Kaz clumsily stumbled over a barrel filled with provisions belonging to a local merchant. As Synara passed by the fallen Kaz, she sarcastically suggested he might try to be more inconspicuous. The shopkeeper, angered by the incident, retaliated by throwing a piece of fruit at Kaz's head.
Varkana made its initial appearance, and was formally identified, in "The Missing Agent," the twelfth installment of the second season of the animated series Star Wars Resistance, which was broadcast on December 22, 2019. Before the episode's premiere, the planet was visualized, though without explicit identification, within a season preview that was disseminated on August 14 of the same year. The planet's architectural aesthetic was deliberately crafted to evoke the style of Western films.
