Kel

Kel, a male human, was the elder sibling of Eila. In the year 34 ABY, following a devastating massacre of their village by First Order forces commanded by Kylo Ren, he and his sister made their escape from their homeworld of Tehar. Kel and Eila subsequently sought refuge on the Colossus platform located on the planet Castilon. Despite being relentlessly pursued by First Order troops under the command of Commander Pyre, the two siblings successfully found sanctuary thanks to the assistance of Resistance pilot Kazuda Xiono and the Chelidae.

Biography

Orphans of Tehar

Kel and Eila were hunted by the First Order, bringing them in contact with Kaz

During the period of the New Republic era, Kel, along with his sister Eila, was compelled to flee their homeworld, Tehar, as hidden passengers. This was a direct result of the First Order's army, under the leadership of Kylo Ren, annihilating the inhabitants of their village, including their parents. The siblings emerged as the sole survivors of this tragedy. Upon discovering that there were survivors, the First Order initiated a manhunt to capture and eliminate Kel and Eila, placing a substantial bounty of 20,000 credits on their capture.

Ultimately, the siblings arrived at the Colossus platform on Castilon, where Kel resorted to stealing food from an Ugnaught vendor to provide for them. This act led to a hasty escape from the marketplace, during which they inadvertently collided with Kazuda Xiono, Neeku Vozo, and BB-8. Xiono, secretly a spy for the Resistance, had become aware of the bounty placed on the siblings. Unaware of who had issued the bounty, he was actively searching for the children, motivated by the need for the financial reward. Kel, displaying anger and distrust, rejected Xiono's offer of assistance, leading him and his sister to flee. In the process, he lost a wooden charm that was attached to his wristband, which Xiono later recovered and presented to Captain Imanuel Doza.

While concealing themselves within the service ducts, Kel and Eila were located by the Chelidae, who functioned as the platform's engineers. Vozo had requested that they find the siblings. Upon meeting Xiono once more in the engineering room, Kel clarified that, contrary to the bounty report, he and his sister were runaways, not missing individuals, as they no longer had a home to return to. Upon realizing that they were fleeing from the First Order, Xiono pledged to assist them in securing their safe passage away from the platform. Kel, accompanied by Xiono, Vozo, and BB-8, returned to the marketplace to procure herbs to aid in the treatment of Eila's fractured leg.

However, a contingent of First Order troops, led by Commander [Pyre](/article/pyre], had arrived to search for them, and their presence was detected, resulting in a pursuit back to the engineering sector. There, Xiono devised a strategy to simulate the siblings' deaths. Cornered by Pyre and his troopers, Kel and Eila created the illusion that they had jumped into the ocean to avoid capture, with two Chelidae members jumping in their place. The Chelidae then artificially slowed down their vital signs. Subsequently, the two siblings remained with the Chelidae, who offered them a secure place to reside for the time being.

The Bibo Incident

When Eila began to experience recurring dreams foretelling a danger looming over the Colossus, Kel recognized, based on past experiences, that these dreams were visions of the future. When he and Eila apprehended Vozo's escaped pet, Bibo, the siblings understood that the pet was somehow linked to the impending danger. They informed Vozo and Tamara Ryvora about the potential threat when they arrived in the engineering sector to retrieve the animal, confirming their suspicions when the roar of Bibo's mother, a fully grown rokkna, echoed through the platform.

The unconscious stormtrooper

Following the occupation of the Colossus by the First Order, Kel and his sister were engaged in fishing for snarlfish on the underside of the platform when their laughter was overheard by a patrolling stormtrooper, identified as CS-515. Kel asserted that the two children had misplaced their identification, prompting CS-515 to attempt to take them into custody, grabbing Eila by the wrist. Kel and Eila resisted, ultimately rendering him unconscious. Recognizing the potential repercussions of their actions, they decided to seek assistance from Xiono. Despite the inherent risks of being on the platform's upper levels, they ventured to Jarek Yeager's Repair Station, where Xiono and Jarek Yeager were sharing a meal with Vozo and Ryvora. Upon Kel and Eila's request for assistance, Xiono summoned Vozo and BB-8 to accompany them. Xiono attempted to dissuade Ryvora from joining them, citing her previous disregard for his warnings about the First Order, but she insisted on coming along.

Kel and Eila guided the members of Team Fireball to the location where they had concealed the unconscious trooper in a closet, which triggered panic. Xiono expressed concern that the trooper could regain consciousness and harm them all, while Ryvora suggested that they should surrender themselves. As CS-515 began to stir, Vozo incapacitated him once more with a wrench. Xiono emphasized the urgency of relocating CS-515 before other First Order personnel discovered him, and the group transported him to the engineering sector. Kel and Eila remained downstairs while Xiono conceived a plan to impersonate the trooper, both to prevent his absence from being noticed and to ascertain whether the trooper had reported the children's presence. While Xiono was upstairs, Ryvora became agitated by Xiono's actions, and Kel and Eila confronted her for placing more trust in the First Order's words than in those of her friends, who were cautioning her about the Order's untrustworthiness. Ryvora was taken aback when the siblings recounted the reasons for their escape from Tehar. When CS-515 regained consciousness, albeit groggily, Kel and Eila initially hid with Ryvora while Vozo addressed the trooper. When he panicked upon seeing a Chelidae, Eila managed to calm him down, before Vozo shocked him unconscious again.

That evening, when Xiono contacted them and requested that they meet him with the unconscious CS-515, as Xiono was fleeing from the First Order after giving the stormtroopers the impression that "CS-515"'s mental conditioning was faulty, Kel, Eila, Ryvora, Vozo, and BB-8 transported the unconscious trooper through the corridors. When they encountered Namua, Ryvora explained that the unconscious man was ill and that they were taking him to the medcenter. They concealed themselves in the maintenance ducts beneath the floor before Xiono arrived, and remained there as CS-515 was dressed back up in his armor and propped up to be recovered by the other stormtroopers. Subsequently, Xiono informed Kel and Eila that they were safe for the moment, as the trooper had not reported them, but that conditions on the Colossus were likely to deteriorate.

Sinking the Colossus

Kel and his sister Eila were present when the Chelidae retrieved Xiono, Yeager, Vozo, and CB-23. Kel and Eila also directed the group to the astromech droid Bucket, whom Kel explained the Chelidae had captured in one of their nets. Kel and Eila were present when Xiono and Vozo initiated the sinking of the Colossus to disable the communications jammer at Doza Tower and establish contact with the Resistance. While the plan was successful, Yeager was captured by the First Order. Kel was deeply disturbed by the news of Yeager's capture. He was present when CB-23 played back the message from the Resistance leader General Leia Organa's. Kel was present when Xiono announced the formation of Team Colossus.

Battle of Castilon

Kel, Eila, and the other members of the Colossus resistance attended a briefing led by Xiono, who outlined his plan to liberate Yeager and the other prisoners and then escape on a shuttle to Hosnian Prime, the capital of the New Republic. The Resistance members then seized control of the hyperdrive chamber from the First Order. Kaz then assigned Vozo, Kel, and Eila the task of opening the outer hatches so that he and CB-23 could swim to the top of the Colossus.

Kaz and CB-23 attempted to swim to the upper levels of the Colossus but were pursued by First Order SCUBA troopers. Kaz and CB-23 were forced to retreat back to the underwater corridor. Kel, Eila, and Vozo made several attempts to locate the controls for depressurizing the airlock before discovering the correct button. This enabled Kaz and CB-23 to find a route to reach Doza Tower through the tunnels and corridors.

During the Battle of Castilon, Kel, along with Vozo, Bucket, and the Chelidae, worked to drain the submerged outer corridors. In the process, Vozo's team aided Xiono and Torra in flushing out stormtroopers from the Colossus. Kel and his sister remained in the Colossus' hyperdrive room for the majority of the battle. Towards the end of the battle, Vozo activated the Colossus' engines and hyperdrive, propelling the station into space. Following the battle, Kel, Eila, and the others observed the Colossus traveling through lightspeed in the hangar.

Exploring the Sith temple

During the Colossus' journey through space, Kel and Eila successfully persuaded Xiono to allow them to accompany his, Torra Doza, and Freya Fenris' supply mission to Ashas Ree. Eila explained to Xiono that they had not experienced trees, grass, rocks, and the natural environment for a considerable period, having been confined to the Colossus' engineering deck. Despite Xiono's instructions to remain aboard their Star Commuter 2000, Kel and Eila secretly left the ship.

While following several bio-luminescent insects, the brother and sister attracted the attention of Xiono and CB-23. Eila then led the group into a Temple of the Force. When Eila remarked that the temple reminded her of their temple back home on Tehar, Kel recalled that it was much larger. They then explored a black structure at the heart of the temple, which proved to be a Sith temple. After Eila heard a voice calling for help inside the Sith temple, she convinced Kel and the others to follow her inside.

While exploring the Sith temple, Kel and Eila were separated from Kaz and CB-23 by a blast door. While attempting to reach Kel and Eila, Kaz was separated from CB-23. Kel and Eila were lost but were found by CB-23. The "rollie" droid led them to a chamber above a trapdoor chamber where Kel and the archaeologist Mika Grey were trapped. With the guidance of Mika, Kel and Eila managed to operate the Sith machinery and free Kaz and Mika, saving them from being crushed to death by a giant grinder.

After recovering a Sith relic, Kel, Eila, and the others escaped the Sith temple after Kaz accidentally activated a self-destruct mechanism. Upon reaching the surface, they discovered that several First Order Raiders led by Raith had captured Torra, Freya, and their astromech droids. Kel, Eila, Kaz, and CB-23 were soon captured by the First Order Raiders. Kel and Eila were struck in the head by a Raider's blaster.

Before further harm could come to Kel and the others, Mika activated the Sith relic she had recovered and hurled it at the stormtroopers. Kel and the others took the opportunity to seek shelter. Raith and the Raiders were vaporized in the ensuing explosion created by the shattered Sith relic. Following the mission, Kel and the others returned to the Colossus, joined by Mika, who became a spiritual guide to his sister Eila.

Standing up to the First Order

Kel and Eila attended a townhall meeting with the other Colossus residents where Captain Doza informed the community about Yeager and Kaz's mission to rescue Tamara Ryvora. Following a debate, the Colossus residents decided to aid Kaz's team by standing their ground and fighting the First Order. The Colossus destroyed Commander Pyre's Star Destroyer during a skirmish in the Barabesh system, ending the First Order's hunt for the Colossus.

Personality and traits

Kel was a boy of human descent, characterized by red-brown hair, yellow eyes, and a complexion of dark skin. He exhibited a protective nature toward his younger sister, Eila, diligently caring for her as they evaded the First Order. Kel and Eila harbored a deep-seated animosity towards the First Order, stemming from the fact that their forces, under the command of Kylo Ren, had been responsible for the deaths of their parents and the destruction of their village. Although initially skeptical of Kazuda Xiono, Kel and his sister eventually developed respect for him as an ally, recognizing his role in safeguarding them from the First Order.

Yeager also held a special fondness for Kel and Eila, extending a warm welcome to them at his garage. As children, Kel and his sister longed for the opportunity to experience nature, having been confined to the Colossus' engineering deck during the Colossus' voyage through space. He shared Eila's curiosity and sense of adventure.

Skills and abilities

Kel possessed knowledge of various herbs, including those utilized to treat his sister's fractured leg. He also had expertise in fishing for snarlfish using puffer pig bacon as bait. While Kel was not proficient in physical combat, he demonstrated the ability to incapacitate a stormtrooper by hurling snarlfish at him. Kel and Eila also acquired knowledge of how to operate the Colossus' engine room controls from the Chelidae. Kel effectively utilized this knowledge when he assisted Vozo in operating the Colossus' outer hatches.

Behind the scenes

Kel is a character conceived for the animated series Star Wars Resistance. His inaugural appearance occurred in the episode entitled "The Children from Tehar," and his voice is provided by Antony Del Rio.
