The Thunderer represented a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer within the arsenal of the First Order. In the course of the occupation of the Colossus, the Thunderer attempted to impede the Colossus's transition to hyperspace and its departure from Castilon. Following the escape from the supertanker fuel depot, the Thunderer was utilized by Agent Tierny along with Commander Pyre as they continued their pursuit of the Colossus, operating under the directives of Captain Phasma to eliminate it. The Thunderer met its end during a skirmish in the Barabesh system while engaging the Colossus.
The designation of the Thunderer was a Resurgent-class Star Destroyer. It incorporated barracks on board, which served as accommodations for First Order TIE Fighter Pilots.

In the wake of the Hosnian Cataclysm, the Thunderer received orders for deployment, tasked with pursuing the Colossus refueling station after Team Colossus, under the leadership of Kazuda Xiono and Commander Jarek Yeager, brought an end to the First Order’s military occupation which was being directed by Commander Pyre. Despite the Thunderer initiating weapon fire upon the Colossus, it failed to prevent the station's escape into hyperspace.
Following the Colossus' escape, Captain Phasma engaged in a conference with Pyre and First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny through a holoprojector. She issued directives for them to hunt down the Colossus due to their inability to secure it for the First Order. She emphasized that allowing it to fall into the hands of General Leia Organa was unacceptable, given its value as a resource, and warned that failure would result in their execution under her supervision. Prior to these events, Agent Tierny had established a rapport with Tamara Ryvora, a teammate of Xiono and Yeager, who subsequently became a First Order TIE Fighter Pilot cadet. Ryvora, harboring resentment towards Xiono and Yeager for concealing information, pledged her allegiance to the First Order. Xiono later attempted communication via comlink, but Ryvora remained embittered.
When a fellow cadet by the name of Jace Rucklin came across the comlink, he successfully convinced Ryvora to report its existence to the First Order. Utilizing the comlink, the First Order gained the ability to track the Colossus to the Ileenium system. The Thunderer made its arrival in the system just as the Warbird gang, who had formed an alliance with the Colossus, were in the process of salvaging coaxium from the wreckage of the Mandator IV-class Siege Dreadnought Fulminatrix to repair their hyperdrive. Following a concise skirmish, the Colossus managed to evade the Thunderer due to the efforts of Xiono and Neeku Vozo in repairing the station's hyperdrive. In an earlier event, the dreadnought had obliterated the base situated on D'Qar.
Subsequently, Ryvora, Rucklin, and Lin Gaava joined the other cadets in training exercises conducted aboard TIE/fo space superiority fighters. During one particular exercise that involved pursuing X-wing drones, Ryvora intervened to save Rucklin's life after his fighter experienced a loss of control. Despite her life-saving actions, Ryvora received a reprimand from their instructor, Lieutenant Galek, for her disobedience of orders. As a consequence, she was denied the appointment of squadron leader.
Continuing the pursuit of the Colossus, Agent Tierny, with the reluctant assistance of Commander Pyre, deployed the Nikto engineer Nenavakasa Nalor to infiltrate the Colossus and carry out acts of sabotage from within. Disguised as a stranded space traveler, Nena successfully integrated herself with the inhabitants of the Colossus and offered her skills as an engineer. While engaged in repairing the ship's systems, Nena discreetly installed regulators into the station's service tunnel, sabotaged its turbines and thrusters, and installed a case blind on its bridge.
Nena also succeeded in creating discord between the Colossus' leader, Captain Imanuel Doza, and the Warbirds. However, Xiono and Synara San uncovered her plot. Nena managed to escape and notify her employers, who promptly dispatched the Thunderer to the Colossus' coordinates. The Thunderer launched an attack on the Colossus. Nevertheless, Kaz and Neeku, with the assistance of the pirates, managed to reverse Nena's sabotage, allowing the Colossus to escape into hyperspace. In an attempt to shift blame, Tierny accused Nena and issued orders for her elimination, a decision with which Pyre readily complied.
Later on, the Thunderer successfully tracked down the Colossus after Captain Doza attempted to utilize a signal beacon to establish contact with his wife, Commander Venisa Doza, who had joined the Resistance following its formation by Leia. The Thunderer deployed several TIE fighters, which engaged the Colossus' Ace Squadron in a brief dogfight. The Colossus and the Aces managed to escape, while the First Order suffered the loss of one TIE fighter.
Shortly thereafter, Venisa appeared in her X-wing and was captured by the Thunderer's tractor beam. She was taken into custody by Agent Tierny and a contingent of stormtroopers. However, she successfully escaped with the aid of her astromech droid, Torch. During her escape, she encountered Ryvora and Rucklin. While holding Ryvora hostage, she established a connection with her and prompted the young woman to question her dedication to the First Order. Following a brief skirmish that resulted in the destruction of several TIE fighters, Venisa and Torch managed to escape in their starfighter.
While TIE cadets Ryvora and Rucklin were engaged in refueling TIE fighters, they were reassigned by Lieutenant Galek to undertake a supply run to the refueling station Titan. During their visit to the Titan, the two encountered Xiono and Vozo, who were on a mission to acquire a trans-binary deflector for the ailing Colossus. Despite Rucklin's attempt to trap them, Ryvora secretly provided assistance in their escape.
After bounty hunter Ax Tagrin informed Commander Pyre of his capture of several more members of the Resistance, including Norath Kev and Kaz, the Thunderer made its way to the planet Varkana. While Pyre and Agent Tierny led a detachment to the surface to apprehend the suspects, Lieutenant Galek took command of the Thunderer during a search of the Varkana system for the Colossus.
Tagrin managed to pinpoint the Colossus' location within a red gas giant by manipulating the communications system of Kaz's Star Commuter 2000 shuttle. However, this action alerted Captain Doza, who promptly guided the Colossus into hyperspace, thus evading Lieutenant Galek. After Xiono and his team escaped Varkana with the assistance of Ace Squadron, the Thunderer attempted to intercept them and deployed several TIE fighters. Nevertheless, Doza and his wife’s daughter Torra coordinated with her father to arrange their pickup. Following a rendezvous with Kaz's team and Ace Squadron, the Colossus fled into hyperspace.
Continuing the hunt for the Colossus, the Thunderer proceeded to dispatch several spider probe droids into space. One of these probe droids encountered Xiono and his racer Fireball above Aeos Prime. Though the probe droid was destroyed, it managed to alert the First Order. In response, Pyre and Tierny dispatched the Thunderer and its complement of TIE fighters and TIE/se Bombers to Aeos Prime to destroy the Colossus.
After the initial starfighter and bomber assault failed to knock out the Colossus, the Thunderer entered Aeos Prime's atmosphere and exchanged fire with the Colossus. Under the leadership of Xiono, Ace Squadron managed to distract the First Order by launching a diversionary attack on the Thunderer, which deployed more TIE fighters. Though the Colossus escaped, Ryvora saved the bridge of the Thunderer from Xiono's missile strike. Due to her efforts, Tierny promoted her to Second Squadron Commander.
After Commander Doza's Jade Squadron, Kaz, Torra, and Hype Fazon broke through the First Order's blockade of Dantooine, Commander Pyre and Agent Tierny deployed the Thunderer and its TIE fighters to prevent the Resistance operatives from evacuating three ships carrying Resistance recruits. Lieutenant Galek's TIE squadron including Rucklin and Ryvora saw action against Jade Squadron and the Aces. Though Galek and many of her pilots were killed during the skirmish, Rucklin succeeded in destroying one of the shuttles carrying recruits for the Resistance. However, the Resistance operatives managed to escape with the two remaining ships. Following the death of Galek, Tam was promoted to Squadron Leader and Lieutenant much to Rucklin's dismay.
The Thunderer later participated in the suppression of the Aeos system, joining thirteen Star Destroyers in orbitally bombarding the Aeosian village in retaliation for giving sanctuary to the Colossus. The devastating massacre led Tam to defect from the First Order.
The Thunderer met its ultimate destruction during the Battle of Barabesh with the Colossus, whose residents decided to join the War against the First Order at the urging of Kaz and Ryvora. During the battle, Ace and Jade Squadrons managed to destroy the Thunderer's engines with the help of CB-23 deactivating the Star Destroyer's shields, causing the ship to explode. Commander Pyre got killed during the explosion, with Rucklin and the crew, while Agent Tierny got Force choked by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren for her failure to destroy the Colossus.
The Thunderer operated under the joint command of Commander Pyre and Agent Tierny, with Lieutenant Galek leading one of the ship's TIE fighter squadrons. Following Galek's demise, Tamara Ryvora received a promotion to lieutenant and assumed command over a small detachment of TIE/sf space superiority fighters.
The initial appearance of the Thunderer occurred in the Star Wars Resistance Season One finale, titled "No Escape: Part 2," which was broadcast on March 17, 2019. The identification of the vessel as the Thunderer was first established in the 2021 reference book, Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy.
