Microraptor-class target drone

Microraptor-class target drones, more frequently known as X-wing drones, functioned as training drones employed by First Order TIE pilots in realistic combat simulations. Following the D'Qar evacuation, Lieutenant Galek pitted her cadets against a squadron of these drones, resulting in the total annihilation of all target X-wing starfighters.

Characteristics

X-wing drones were unpiloted starships engineered as simplified copies of X-wing starfighters. These drones, sporting a red and gray hull, were armed with four laser cannons that discharged red laser bolts. These cannons were each positioned at the tip of each extended S-foil wing, which also had four smaller wings attached to them, mirroring the design of Aggressive ReConnaissance-170 starfighters, the inspiration for the X-wing line.

Role

First Order TIE pilots utilized these drones for target practice.

History

Lieutenant Galek of the First Order deployed several drones for a training exercise.

Shortly after the D'Qar evacuation, Lieutenant Galek, a flight instructor in the First Order, unleashed a series of X-wing drones for a live-fire exercise intended for her pilot cadets.

Behind the scenes

The X-wing drones were conceived and designed for "Live Fire," the third installment of the second season of Star Wars Resistance, an animated series which initially aired on October 20, 2019. These drones were subsequently identified by name within the episode's companion guide on StarWars.com, alongside the "Bucket's List" and "Bucket's List Extra" behind-the-scenes features for "Live Fire."
