A T-70 X-wing is displayed, with its S-foils secured in their combat configuration.
Strike foils, also referenced as S-foils or stability foils, constituted mobile aerodynamic surfaces affixed to spacecraft such as the X-wing starfighter, the ARC-170 starfighter, the Outland TIE fighter, and the U-wing starfighter, sometimes incorporating armaments. During standard flight, these foils remained in a retracted, closed arrangement; however, upon entering combat, they would extend outward into an attack stance. The T-65B X-wing starfighter, engineered by the Incom Corporation, along with the T-70 and T-85 X-wing starfighters, products of the Incom-FreiTek Corporation, are prime examples of starfighter models featuring S-foils. The distinct X-shaped configuration created when the S-foils were deployed for combat broadened the firing range of the laser cannons installed on each wing.
