Torch served as the astromech droid partner of Venisa Doza, who was a rebel pilot and later became a Resistance pilot. He accompanied her on numerous missions, including visits to the planets of Bakura and Lehon. During one of the initial training sessions for her daughter, Torra, as a starfighter pilot, Venisa's daughter ejected Torch from his designated astromech socket. He maintained a close friendship with Jarek Yeager's astromech droid, Bucket.
When Agent Tierny of the First Order captured Torch and Venisa, along with their X-wing, the droid feigned being damaged and non-functional. This act was crucial in aiding Doza's escape from Tierny's Resurgent-class Star Destroyer, the Thunderer. As a distraction, he piloted a TIE/fo space superiority fighter from the capital ship's primary hangar before using his rocket boosters to eject and rejoin Venisa on her X-wing.
Later, with their X-wing, the pair participated in breaking through the blockade of Dantooine and in the rescue of Tamara Ryvora as a member of Jade Squadron.
Torch made his debut appearance in the Star Wars Resistance episode titled "Rendezvous Point." The astromech was originally named "Scorch" in the episode's initial draft, but the name was subsequently changed to "Torch." Torch, along with Doza's X-wing, was designed to evoke the impression that Doza had owned him since the era of the Original Trilogy, reflecting her long history as a fighter pilot.
