Blockade of Dantooine

During the conflict between the First Order and the Resistance, the First Order initiated a blockade of Dantooine. This blockade by the First Order severed all lines of communication and left Resistance recruits stranded. In response, the Resistance, utilizing Jade Squadron along with members from Ace Squadron, executed an operation. The purpose of this operation was to extract three shuttles filled with Resistance recruits from Dantooine and ensure their safe return to the Colossus.

Background

Following the commencement of the First Order-Resistance War, the First Order seized control of the planet Dantooine through occupation. To reinforce their control, the First Order established a blockade around the planet, utilizing at least a squadron of TIE/fo space superiority fighters. Despite the occupation, numerous Resistance recruits remained on the planet. Commander Venisa Doza of the Resistance, along with her Jade Squadron consisting of Hugh Sion and Norath Kev, received the assignment to break through the blockade and evacuate the Resistance recruits.

Seeking assistance, they visited the Colossus refueling tanker, where Venisa's husband, Captain Imanuel Doza, and their daughter, Torra Doza, resided. Despite his initial reluctance to engage in the war, Doza consented to allow Torra, along with two other Ace Squadron pilots, the Resistance spy Kazuda Xiono and Hype Fazon, to participate. He also agreed to provide temporary shelter for the rescued recruits.

The mission

Breaching the blockade

Jade Squadron, accompanied by the three Aces, journeyed to Dantooine aboard their respective starfighters. Upon emerging from hyperspace, they confronted the TIE fighter squadron maintaining the planetary blockade. They swiftly eliminated the enemy fighters without sustaining any losses. With the opposition neutralized, Venisa contacted the Resistance recruits, who subsequently departed from a spaceport aboard three shuttles.

However, one of the TIE fighter pilots managed to alert Commander Pyre to the Resistance presence that had broken their blockade. Commander Pyre then deployed his Star Destroyer, the Thunderer, to Dantooine. For this operation, Pyre committed the entire squadron of Lieutenant Galek, including Second Squadron Commander Tamara Ryvora, and fellow pilot Jace Rucklin.

A difficult extraction

Jade Squadron and the Aces entered Dantooine's upper atmosphere, where they met with the Resistance shuttles. Before they could escape into hyperspace, Commander Pyre's Star Destroyer and its deployed TIE fighters moved to intercept them. Venisa, Kaz, and Hugh engaged the TIE fighters, while Torra, Hype, and Norath took on the responsibility of protecting the three shuttles.

Venisa swiftly destroyed three TIE fighters. Meanwhile, Tamara narrowly avoided a collision with Kaz, who piloted the Fireball. Despite her conflict, Tamara attempted to shoot down Kaz, but Hugh intervened, damaging her starfighter from behind. Simultaneously, Rucklin received orders from Lieutenant Galek to destroy the shuttles before they could escape into hyperspace.

As the shuttles and their escorts ascended into the upper atmosphere, a TIE fighter evaded Hype and managed to damage Shuttle two's hyperdrive. Torra retaliated by shooting down the fighter. She instructed the shuttle's pilot to repair the hyperdrive while Jade Squadron and the Aces provided cover to allow them time to escape. With the TIEs having lost half of their forces, Tamara attempted to persuade Lieutenant Galek to order a retreat, but she insisted on continuing the mission.

Galek attempted to shoot down Xiono in the Fireball, but Venisa shot down and killed Galek, depriving the First Order squadron of their leader. Rucklin panicked and told Tamara that as Second Squadron Commander, she was now in charge. Rucklin then told Ryvora that he had an opening on one of the shuttles and that he was going for it. Rucklin exploited a gap in the Resistance formation and destroyed a shuttle's engine, causing it to crash onto Dantooine's surface. Venisa ordered Jade Squadron, the Aces, and the two remaining shuttles to escape into hyperspace.

Aftermath

Although Jade Squadron and the Aces successfully breached the blockade and evacuated two Resistance shuttles, the mission was marred by the loss of one shuttle. Kaz, Torra, and Hype expressed disappointment over their failure to rescue all Resistance recruits from Dantooine. Venisa comforted the pilots by reminding them that loss is an unavoidable aspect of war and that they must not lose hope. Yeager added that the recruits they managed to evacuate represented a victory.

Captain Doza reassessed his neutral stance on the First Order-Resistance War. He decided to fully commit to the Resistance's cause and offer long-term refuge to the rescued Resistance recruits.

In the meantime, Agent Tierny promoted Ryvora to Squadron Leader and Lieutenant in the absence of Galek, crediting her squadron with destroying a Resistance shuttle even though they couldn't destroy the other two. However, Rucklin, who had shot down the shuttle was bitter that he had not been given any recognition or promotion for his efforts and angrily jealous that Tamara always receives the glory and gets to rise up in the ranks of the First Order.
