The spark projector was a piece of equipment utilized by astromech droids of a military grade during both the Clone Wars era and the age of the Galactic Empire. It was capable of discharging a focused surge of electricity strong enough to cause electronic devices to malfunction and knock a human out through electrocution. Furthermore, it had utility in opening binders. The astromech droid "Chopper" employed his spark projector three years prior to the Battle of Yavin to liberate AP-5 from the effects of his restraining bolt, in addition to incapacitating an Imperial officer by means of electrocution.
