During the First Order-Resistance War, a rescue operation was launched on Varkana by Team Colossus operatives. The team consisted of Jarek Yeager, Kazuda Xiono, CB-23, and the pirate, Synara San. Their objective was to free Norath Kev, a Resistance agent held captive by the bounty hunter, Ax Tagrin. After a brief confrontation with Tagrin, Kaz's group successfully located Norath within Ax's vessel, the Dalkor Dagger. Despite being ensnared by Tagrin's trap, Kaz, CB-23, and Norath were able to sabotage the ship's engines, causing it to crash. Simultaneously, Yeager and Synara engaged Tagrin in combat, while Kaz and Norath made their escape on a speeder bike, attempting to contact the Colossus for extraction.
However, Ax alerted the First Order to their presence, leading to the deployment of First Order forces to Varkana. Tagrin successfully captured Yeager, Synara, and CB-23, subsequently handing them over to Commander Pyre and Agent [Tierny](/article/tierny]. Undeterred, Kaz and Norath initiated a daring rescue attempt, infiltrating the First Order base by disguising themselves as stormtroopers. CB-23 independently managed to liberate herself. Following a successful overpowering of their First Order captors, including Tagrin, they orchestrated their escape from Varkana with the assistance of Ace Squadron and Captain Imanuel Doza.
During the First Order-Resistance War, Resistance spy Norath Kev embarked on a mission to monitor First Order black market operations at Vargo Spaceport, situated on the planet Varkana. He also created a list identifying local First Order informants, notably the Gran vendor Lechee.
However, Lechee betrayed Norath by informing Ax Tagrin, a bounty hunter who worked for the highest bidder, which in this case was the First Order. After a chase, Ax located Norath and his astromech droid 2BR-NTB at a residence. Tagrin shot 2B-NTB and captured Norath. Before being captured, Norath managed to transmit a distress signal on a secure Resistance channel.
Kazuda Xiono, a Resistance operative stationed aboard the Colossus, intercepted Norath's signal. Despite Captain Imanuel Doza's concerns about a potential trap, Xiono and his mentor Jarek Yeager, a seasoned New Republic starfighter pilot, successfully persuaded Doza to grant them a limited timeframe. Consequently, Xiono and Yeager departed for Varkana, accompanied by the pirate Synara San and Kaz's BB-series astromech droid CB-23.
Kaz and his team landed their Star Commuter 2000 shuttle on the outskirts of Vargo Spaceport. Despite their efforts to remain inconspicuous, the group was observed by the local merchant Lechee, who attempted to lure them into purchasing goods from his shop. Kaz and his team declined his offers. Recognizing them as outsiders, Lechee used his comlink to contact Ax Tagrin.
CB-23 was able to trace Norath's distress call to a specific house. Upon entering the house, they discovered Norath's datapad and a data rod, but the Resistance spy was nowhere to be found. Soon after, they were ambushed by Tagrin, who intended to capture them for the First Order. Yeager attempted to use Norath's datapad to electrocute the bounty hunter, but Ax deflected the object with his blaster.
Kaz, Yeager, and CB-23 seized the opportunity to escape while Synara engaged the bounty hunter in combat. Although Synara was a skilled fighter, Tagrin proved to be a formidable adversary, injuring Synara in the back with his vibro-ax. Synara managed to evade Ax by kicking him over the balcony.
After Synara rejoined the group, the team convened to discuss their mission. Despite Synara's doubts about Norath's survival, Kaz remained determined to rescue Norath from the First Order. Yeager successfully persuaded Captain Doza to grant them additional time to complete their mission.
Suspecting Lechee's collaboration with the First Order, Kaz and his team interrogated the Gran merchant. At gunpoint, the merchant revealed that Tagrin had taken Lechee to his ship, the Dalkor Dagger, which was located in a hangar bay on the south side of Vargo spaceport.
Kaz and his team proceeded to the hangar. While Synara remained outside, Kaz, Yeager, and CB-23 boarded the bounty hunter's ship. They discovered Norath imprisoned within a cell in the ship's cargo hold. However, Tagrin had anticipated their arrival and trapped them in the ship's cargo bay. He then contacted Commander Pyre, who was sent to intercept Kaz before he could deliver the Colossus to General Leia Organa, and arranged to meet at a designated location.
Ax Tagrin piloted the Dalkor Dagger out of Vargo Spaceport. Synara followed her captured comrades on a speeder bike. Working together, Kaz and Norath managed to access an engine panel. CB-23 then connected to a network terminal and overrode the ship's systems, causing a power surge that destroyed one of the ship's fuses and engines.
The Dalkor Dagger collided with a rocky pinnacle before crash-landing in the desert. Kaz and his team survived the crash-landing, but so did Tagrin, who was determined to capture his targets. Ax pursued the Resistance team. While Kaz and the injured Norath, who had suffered a broken leg, escaped on a speeder bike, Yeager and Synara confronted Tagrin.
Kaz contacted Captain Doza to request extraction. However, Doza was unable to assist because Commander Pyre's Resurgent-class Star Destroyer, the Thunderer, had just entered the Varkana system. The Star Destroyer deployed a landing party consisting of an Upsilon-class shuttle, two Atmospheric Assault Lander, and two TIE/fo space superiority fighters to rendezvous with Tagrin.
Ax Tagrin managed to subdue and capture Yeager, Synara, and CB-23, whom he handed over to Commander Pyre and First Order Security Bureau Agent Tierny. When Tagrin demanded payment, Pyre refused, arguing that he had only captured a collaborator and a pirate, not two Resistance spies. The First Order detained and interrogated their three captives.
Agent Tierny had Yeager and Synara strapped into interrogation chairs aboard an Atmospheric Assault Lander. She employed a combination of torture and psychological manipulation, including references to Tamara Ryvora, to extract information from Yeager, but the rebel veteran proved resilient and uncooperative. Meanwhile, Pyre tasked a Tech stormtrooper with extracting data from CB-23, seeking information to locate and eliminate the Resistance.
In response to the First Order's arrival, Captain Doza concealed the Colossus within a red gas giant. Although his daughter Torra Doza and Kaz managed to convince him to delay his jump until Kaz had rescued his team, Captain Doza refused to dismiss the possibility of retreating into hyperspace to protect his inhabitants.
Captain Doza's fears were confirmed when Tagrin located Kaz's shuttle. He transmitted a signal to the Colossus, enabling him to trace the space station's location. Tagrin informed Commander Pyre, who dispatched Lieutenant Galek, the third commanding officer aboard the Thunderer, to pursue the Colossus. However, Doza realized that the First Order had discovered them and initiated a jump to hyperspace.
Before the Colossus retreated into hyperspace, Torra Doza, along with Hype Fazon and Freya Fenris, successfully persuaded her father to allow Ace Squadron to remain hidden in space and await Kaz's arrival so that the Colossus could retrieve him.
Back on Varkana, Kaz devised a rescue plan involving stealing stormtrooper armor and infiltrating the spaceport hangar where the First Order had established a base to rescue their friends. Norath was skeptical of Kaz's plan but agreed to cooperate. Due to Kaz's clumsiness, the two attracted the attention of stormtroopers. They sought refuge in a house but aroused the hostility of a local Gabdorin merchant who attempted to alert the First Order. When the stormtroopers entered the house to investigate the commotion, Kaz and Norath knocked them unconscious and stole their armor.
Kaz and Norath successfully infiltrated the First Order base in disguise. They encountered Commander Pyre, but Xiono managed to stun him. Although the Tech stormtrooper managed to access CB-23's main databanks, the droid broke free and electrocuted her captor with her grappling cable. She then destroyed the computers and incapacitated Agent Tierny, who had arrived to investigate.
Meanwhile, Kaz and Norath freed Yeager and Synara. After reuniting with CB-23, they headed back to the shuttle after being unable to contact Captain Doza. However, Tagrin ambushed them. Although Tagrin managed to blind the organics with a flash detonator, CB-23 took control of the shuttle and rammed him, knocking the bounty hunter unconscious. The group then managed to evade a revived Captain Pyre and his stormtroopers.
Kaz's Star Commuter 2000 shuttle was pursued by three TIE fighters. However, Ace Squadron, led by Torra and Hype, intervened and eliminated the enemy fighters. While flying into space, they were intercepted by the Thunderer, which dispatched three squadrons of TIE fighters to attack them.
However, Torra contacted her father, who brought the Colossus out of hyperspace. Several TIEs crashed into the space station. Kaz's shuttle and Ace Squadron managed to board the Colossus, which then jumped into hyperspace.
While Kaz's mission to rescue the Resistance operative Norath Kev was complicated by the arrival of the bounty hunter Ax Tagrin and the First Order, Kaz and his team managed to complete their mission with the help of the Colossus and Ace Squadron. Torra successfully persuaded her father to allow her and her fellow Aces to remain behind to assist Kaz. Despite the overwhelming odds, Captain Doza was unwilling to abandon his people to the First Order.
Kaz's idea of using stormtrooper armor and Eila to rescue his friends Yeager, CB-23, and Synara earned him the praise of both Norath and Neeku Vozo. While Norath initially viewed Kaz as clumsy and indecisive, he came to appreciate Kaz's loyalty and devotion and offered Kaz a position in the Resistance. However, Kaz had developed a strong bond with his friends aboard the Colossus and declined Norath's offer.
The Rescue of Norath Kev was first depicted in the Star Wars Resistance Season Two episode "The Missing Agent," which premiered on Disney XD on December 22, 2019. The rescue mission was also featured in the subsequent episode "Breakout," which aired on December 29, 2019.
