Trans-binary deflectors, also referred to as trans binary deflectors, functioned as protective measures against the dangers of cosmic radiation for living beings. During the events of 34 ABY, when the supertanker fuel depot named Colossus faced the imminent failure of its trans-binary deflector, Kazuda Xiono, Neeku Vozo, and CB-23 undertook a mission to infiltrate the First Order's supertanker fuel depot Titan with the goal of acquiring a replacement deflector. The team successfully located their desired item within the space station's Engineering sector and managed to steal a trans-binary deflector before making their escape.
Trans-binary deflectors, alternatively known as trans binary deflectors, represented a technological advancement created to shield lifeforms from the harmful effects of cosmic radiation, which could be killed. Their design typically involved a cylindrical shape, incorporating metal and yellow-green elements. They were commonly installed within terminals found on space stations such as supertanker fuel depots. Deactivation was a necessary step before any attempt to remove these deflectors.
The year 34 ABY saw the trans-binary deflector on the supertanker fuel depot Colossus nearing a critical malfunction, thereby endangering the lives of those aboard. In response, three crew members—Kazuda Xiono, an operative of the Resistance, Neeku Vozo, an engineer, and CB-23, a BB-series astromech droid—embarked on a covert operation to infiltrate the Titan, a supertanker fuel depot under the control of the First Order. Their objective was to quickly procure a functioning replacement.

While on the Titan, Xiono, Vozo, and CB-23 concealed their identities and found the trans-binary deflectors located inside the hyperdrive room, which was part of the station's Engineering section. They discovered that the devices had to be deactivated first. Consequently, Xiono and Vozo proceeded to the engine room to disable the deflectors before reuniting with CB-23 in Engineering. Vozo rerouted power from the terminal, which then allowed Xiono to extract one of the trans-binary deflectors. However, their actions were observed by Jace Rucklin, a First Order TIE fighter pilot, who alerted the station's security. With the deflector secured in his pack, Xiono and his comrades made a rapid escape from the Titan, pursued by First Order stormtroopers, eventually returning safely to the Colossus.

The initial appearance of trans-binary deflectors occurred in "Station to Station," which was the eleventh episode of Star Wars Resistance's second season. This episode of the animated television series was broadcast on December 15, 2019. Colas Gauthier, an artist at Lucasfilm Animation, created concept art for the technology, dating it to April 13, 2018. Although the subtitles in "Station to Station" referred to them as trans-binary deflectors, the 2024 reference book titled Star Wars Encyclopedia: The Comprehensive Guide to the Star Wars Galaxy presented them under the name trans binary deflectors.
