The Kowakian ape, alternatively named the Kowakian ape-lizard, was a sizable, predatory reptilian beast of limited sentience that originated on the world of Kowak.
The visage and elongated tail of the Kowakian ape-lizard bore a resemblance to its smaller relatives, the Kowakian monkey-lizards. Nevertheless, its stature far exceeded that of a fully grown human. Possessing a robust and heavily muscled physique, it emitted a deep roar, contrasting with the shrill cackling sounds produced by its diminutive kin. Furthermore, this creature had short rear legs and powerful, extended forelimbs. Equipped with tusks and coarse hair extending along its spine, its thick skin provided defense against blaster weaponry.
During 34 ABY, certain members belonging to Kragan Gorr's pirate syndicate made an attempt to plunder a Darius G-class freighter traversing an asteroid belt located in proximity to the planet Castilon. However, the freighter's payload was revealed to consist of a Kowakian ape-lizard accompanied by several monkey-lizards. The liberated ape-lizard proceeded to wreak havoc throughout the vessel, consuming the majority of the pirates with the exception of Synara San, who successfully sought refuge within a container. Subsequently, the Resistance operative Kazuda Xiono alongside the pilot Poe Dameron made their way to the wrecked vessel, rescuing San while simultaneously dodging the ape-lizard.
Also in 34 ABY, two pairs of ape-lizards functioned as doormen at Vranki the Blue's Hotel and Casino, standing guard at the entrance to the main casino area. They were each wearing a small blue hat as part of their attire.
