The squonk was a species of avian originating from the world of D'Qar.
Found naturally in the jungles of the planet D'Qar, squonks were flightless birds with two legs. These creatures possessed a pair of droopy ears positioned on either side of their heads, prominent eyes, and small beaks. Despite their apparent inability to fly, they were equipped with two rather large wings.
During the time that Leia Organa's Resistance was stationed on D'Qar, Rose and Paige Tico embarked on an expedition to survey the planet for available natural resources. It was during this venture that Rose discovered these avians, subsequently giving them the name squonks, as "squonk" was the sole vocalization they emitted. With their transport vehicles rendered inoperable, the Tico siblings utilized the birds to pull their wagons, which contained a sample of durasteel ore, back to the Resistance encampment.
The squonks made their debut in Star Wars: Forces of Destiny—Rose & Paige, a comic book that was released on January 31, 2018.
