Maxiron Agolerga

Maxiron Agolerga was a male human who held the position of Pontifex within the Brotherhood of Cognizance. During 22 BBY, he was among the mere twenty or so hermits belonging to the order. He made history as the first Pontifex in over 300 years to officially recognize a marriage, secretly officiating the wedding between Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala. This ceremony occurred on a balcony at the Varykino retreat, situated in the Lake Country of the planet Naboo, with only the droids R2-D2 and C-3PO present as witnesses. Agolerga possessed fair skin and donned dark robes for the occasion.

Behind the scenes

Maxiron Agolerga's initial appearance was in the prequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, released in 2002. The scenes filmed at Varykino were shot at Villa del Balbianello, located on Lake Como in Italy. The wedding scene's filming was almost delayed due to rainfall the night before, but the weather cleared just fifteen minutes prior to the shoot. Within the current Star Wars canon, Agolerga's name was first established in the 2016 magazine Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon 54.

Within the Star Wars Legends storyline, the character was featured before the film's release in its novelization by R. A. Salvatore in 2002. Tim Veekhoven later identified him through the What's The Story? segment of StarWars.com's Hyperspace feature, in an entry written during 2007. Veekhoven chose the name Agolerga, drawing inspiration from Manuel Aringarosa, a character in Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code.
