Christophsis

The galaxy's Outer Rim Territories were home to the planet of Christophsis, situated within the Christoph system. It was here that the Battle of Christophsis unfolded during the Clone Wars. The crystalline world faced an invasion by the battle droid forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, but the Jedi and clone troopers sent by the Galactic Republic successfully defended it. Later on, another battle occurred on the planet between the Republic and the Separatists. After the Galactic Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire, Imperial control was established over the planet, despite ongoing rebellious activity.

Description

The surface of Christophsis was characterized by forests of naturally occurring, [turquoise](/article/color] crystal spires, creating a visually stunning and impressive environment. According to the Galactic Atlas, these crystal forests grew from hexagonally-shaped "tiles" that formed the planet's fields. The atmosphere was suitable for breathing by most humanoid species, and a moon named Leesis orbited the planet.

History

High Republic Era

During the High Republic Era, Jedi Knight Dez Rydan had various adventures on Christophsis. These exploits caused concern for his former mentor, Jedi Master Jora Malli, who wondered if he had overcome his adventurous tendencies. After his time on Christophsis, Rydan departed and joined the Zeitooine mission, becoming involved in the mission on the Amaxine station. Subsequently, he sought emotional balance through the Barash Vow.

The Clone Wars

Christophsis played a pivotal role during the Clone Wars, serving as the location for several significant battles between the Confederacy of Independent Systems Navy and the Galactic Republic. Alderaanian Senator Bail Organa visited the planet to provide relief, but he and his mission were trapped by a Separatist fleet led by Admiral Trench. A Republic fleet, commanded by Jedi Generals Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with Admiral Wullf Yularen, engaged Trench's fleet in a clash and ultimately defeated them after a lengthy battle. This victory allowed the Republic to deliver essential supplies to Organa and his team.

Subsequently, the Republic established a military base on Christophsis and initiated a campaign to reclaim the planet from Separatist forces commanded by General Whorm Loathsom and Count Dooku's Sith assassin Asajj Ventress. During the conflict, Kenobi and Skywalker devised a strategy to ensnare Separatist droid forces advancing from two towers. However, their plan was compromised by a [traitor](/article/treason] within the clone trooper forces: Clone Sergeant Slick. Working together, clone officers Cody and Rex successfully apprehended Slick. Meanwhile, Kenobi and Skywalker narrowly avoided a trap set by Ventress at the Separatist base.

Before being captured, the renegade clone trooper managed to sabotage most of the Republic's weaponry, except for their heavy cannons, which were saved by the clones. The Republic forces' situation was further complicated by the advance of Loathsom's Retail Caucus droid forces. Despite facing overwhelming odds, the Jedi and Republic received assistance from a young Padawan named Ahsoka Tano, who had been dispatched by Jedi Master Yoda to become Skywalker's apprentice. Together, Skywalker and Tano infiltrated the Separatist lines and disabled their deflector shield generator, while Kenobi stalled the Separatist forces by "negotiating" with Loathsom. This strategy proved effective, allowing the Republic to turn the tide against the Separatist forces and capture Loathsom. News reports about the Christophsis campaign were broadcast at Kamino's military complex.

Approximately two years after the Christophsis campaign, the Confederacy still maintained a military base on the planet, primarily staffed by B1-series battle droids. After escaping the Republic Venator-class Star Destroyer Vigilance, the Separatist leader Count Dooku, the traitorous Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, and Ventress crash-landed on Christophsis. By this time, Ventress had been betrayed by Dooku and had formed an alliance with the Jedi in exchange for helping Vos assassinate Dooku. Dooku and Vos were then pursued by a Republic landing party led by Kenobi and Skywalker. Unbeknownst to everyone, Vos secretly intended to use Dooku to find his master Darth Sidious so he could destroy the Sith permanently.

After traversing Christophsis' crystalline terrain, the three reached the Separatist military base. Dooku contacted his master, Darth Sidious, to arrange safe passage off Christophsis. Shortly after, the Republic bombarded the Separatist base. During the bombardment, Dooku attempted to kill Vos with Force lightning, but struck Ventress instead. Ventress' apparent demise caused Vos to return to the light side, and he refused to kill Dooku, realizing that it would lead him to the dark side. Dooku managed to escape with Sidious' assistance, while Kenobi and Skywalker took a repentant Vos into custody.

Imperial era

After the transformation of the Galactic Republic into the Galactic Empire, a rebel group known as the Spectres attacked an Imperial [convoy](/article/convoy] heading to Christophsis in space. This was the second in a series of raids targeting Imperial convoys bound for Ryloth. The rebels then targeted convoys near Kashyyyk and Toydaria before establishing a base on the Outer Rim world of Lothal. The Empire also seized kyber crystals that were sacred to the natives and used them for the Death Star.

In 3 BBY, following the theft of one of the Empire's medical frigates, the Galactic Empire traced rebellious elements to Christophsis and determined they were responsible. A series of arrests followed, including the planet's prime minister, senators, and territorial supervisors. The senators and territorial supervisors were sent to Imperial work camps, and the Prime Minister was executed for treason. The Empire also "pacified" the city of [Tophen](/article/tophen], the prime minister's hometown, which was believed to be the center of the insurgency, as a warning to the population in an attempt to suppress radical elements. The capital city of Chaleydonia was also attacked by three Imperial-class Star Destroyers that opened fire on civilian buildings, starting with the city hospitals.

Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin announced the arrests and subsequent "pacifications" to the Imperial Senate. While many senators were appalled by the actions, they still applauded the news, knowing that failure to do so could result in the same fate for their own worlds. Among those applauding were Senator Bail Organa and his adopted daughter, the Apprentice Legislator, Princess Leia Organa, who later discussed the matter more honestly with Bail's wife, Queen Breha Organa, after returning home to Alderaan.

Around the time of the Battle of Jakku, five pilgrims from the Church of the Force—the MA-B0 cargo lifter droid Mabo, Addar the [human](/article/human], Jumon the [Iakaru](/article/iakaru], Madrammagath the Elomin, and Uggorda the Duros—embarked on a mission to Christophsis to return several stolen kyber crystals. They were sent by pastor and philanthropist Brin Izisca. Over a thirteen day period, the pilgrims navigated Christophsis' treacherous terrain. Maddrammagath, Uggorda, and Jumon were killed by several fearsome Force-sensitive creatures known as Kyaddak. Despite the deaths of their companions, Mabo and Addar managed to return the crystals to a broken crystal wall. Mabo was destroyed after falling into a hole, and Addar was left to defend himself against a pack of pursuing Kyaddak.
