Addar

Addar, a human who belonged to the Church of the Force, journeyed to the planet of Christophsis to bring back a shipment of kyber crystals that had originated there. His faith in the Force, as preached by the church, was not strong, and he soon grew doubtful about the mission's true meaning. This feeling intensified when kyaddak began to stalk and attack the church members as they made their way through the crystal forest. The Elomin Madrammagath was killed by these predators, and Addar, along with his three remaining companions, managed to escape the forest. However, in the days that followed, the Duros named Uggorda, and then the MA-B0 cargo lifter droid called Mabo, also met their end, leaving only Addar and his Iakaru friend, Jumon.

On the thirteenth day of their trek, the kyaddak came back. Jumon gave his life, sacrificing himself so that Addar could have the necessary time to finish what they had started. Addar ran from the predators and finally reached the cavern where the crystals were meant to be returned. But there, the kyaddak cornered him. Addar, using a blaster pistol he had brought, fired at the creatures and managed to collapse parts of the cavern walls, causing a section of the ceiling to fall. Now safe from the kyaddaks, but stuck and alone, Addar began to unpack the crystals to complete the mission, trying to ignore the high probability that he would die in the crystal prison he had inadvertently created.

Biography

Addar, a human, was born to a female founding member of the religious organization known as the Church of the Force and subsequently became a member himself. In the year 5 ABY, he joined a five-person expedition to the planet Christophsis. Their purpose was to return a collection of kyber crystals to their original growing place. These crystals had been gathered by members of the Jedi Order to be used in lightsabers. However, after the order's downfall, the Galactic Empire seized them and used them to power the superlaser of their Death Star superweapon.

Addar traveled to Christophsis to return kyber crystals originally grown there.

The group arrived via starship and began their journey through one of Christophsis' numerous crystalline cave systems. By the third day, Addar's doubts about their mission had grown, and he shared them with his friend, the Iakaru Jumon. To offer reassurance, Jumon played holographic recordings of Brin Izisca, the church's leader, while the group rested for the night by a campfire under the stars. The next day, they entered the crystal forest, and by the end of the fourth day, they realized they were being hunted by something within the crystallized trees.

On the sixth day, the Elomin Madrammagath was killed while away from the group. Based on the wounds on his body, Jumon determined that kyaddak were hunting them. The remaining four members stayed awake that night, becoming increasingly aware of their hunters: first hearing them, then seeing signs of their presence, and finally spotting the creatures lurking in the shadows. Addar revealed to Jumon that he had brought a blaster pistol, even though they were traveling to a holy site. However, Jumon forbade him from attacking the kyaddak, as they too were creatures of the Force.

On the eighth day, three kyaddak attacked the group, injuring the Duros [Uggorda](/article/uggorda]. However, they were driven off by Jumon, Addar, and the MA-B0 cargo lifter droid Mabo before they could kill her. The four then pressed on and managed to escape the kyaddak's territory within the crystal forest on the ninth day, entering an area where the ground was made of crystal instead of dirt. Now safe from their hunters, the group made another campfire for the night so Mabo could care for Uggorda's injuries. Addar and Jumon argued about the purpose of their mission before Addar fell sleep listening to Izisca reading from the Journal of the Whills.

Uggorda was killed on the tenth day when a crystal stalactite fell from the cave ceiling and pierced her head. Mabo met his end on the twelfth day, falling into a chasm that opened beneath him after his weight broke the crystal surface. As the droid clung to a ledge in his final moments, Addar jumped to grab the crate containing the crystals, which Mabo was also holding. Knowing that Addar couldn't support both his and the crystals' weight, Mabo let go. With the cargo lifter gone, Jumon and Addar shared the weight of the crate and continued.

On the thirteenth day, the kyaddak returned. Jumon stayed behind to hold them off, giving Addar the time he needed to complete the journey. Addar ran, eventually reaching the caves where the crystals belonged, guided by a locator on his arm. Initially, he thought he had lost the kyaddak, but upon hearing them approach, he opened fire with his blaster [pistol](/article/pistol], shattering parts of the cave's crystal walls and causing a cave-in. This left Addar safe from the kyaddak but also trapped, as he soon realized he had reached a dead end. After watching another of Izisca's holovids, in which the church leader described the task of returning the crystals, Addar left the recording on loop and began unpacking the kyber crystals from their crate, knowing that he would likely die alongside them, trapped in the cave.

Personality and traits

Addar was young, inexperienced, and uncertain when he joined the Christophsis mission, quickly questioning its purpose. He had become a member of the church only because his mother had helped establish it and did not share its beliefs about the Force. He was not convinced by Izisca's recordings and refused to believe there was no dark side of the Force, as the church leader claimed, knowing that both he and Izisca believed in evil.

As the journey on Christophsis became increasingly dangerous and deadly, he began to denounce it as a pointless endeavor whose purpose he didn't even understand. Despite his lack of faith in the church and the mission, Addar completed the task of returning the crystals, never abandoning them despite the great fear he felt at the danger he faced. While trapped in the crystal caves, he tried not to think about the fact he would soon die trapped and alone, finally becoming one with the Force.

Equipment

Addar carried a small blaster pistol with him on the mission to Christophsis, despite being told not to bring weapons into the holy site. He also wore a locator on his wrist that beeped once he arrived at the intended destination of the journey.

Behind the scenes

Addar made his first appearance in an interlude in the 2017 novel Aftermath: Empire's End, authored by Chuck Wendig.
