Mission to Lando Calrissian's farm

In the year 4 BBY, the Ghost's rebel crew joined forces with smuggler Lando Calrissian for a mission that led them to his farm on Lothal. This occurred after they assisted him in obtaining a puffer pig from the crime lord known as Azmorigan. To reach the farm, the Ghost had to battle through a blockade consisting of Imperial Star Destroyers and TIE/ln space superiority starfighters. Upon arriving at their destination, they were met by Azmorigan, which resulted in a firefight between the crew and the crime lord's enforcers. The crew successfully repelled Azmorigan, allowing Calrissian to keep the puffer pig to initiate a mining operation.

Prelude

Following the rescue of Tseebo and Ezra Bridger's Jedi Trials, the Spectres' financial situation was dire. While engaged in a game of sabacc with the "galactic entrepreneur" Lando Calrissian, Garazeb Orrelios wagered the astromech droid Chopper. Calrissian, however, revealed an Idiot's Array card, securing his victory and taking possession of Chopper. Hera Syndulla, the rebel captain, protested Zeb's impulsive decision, and Calrissian offered to return Chopper and provide payment if they agreed to smuggle cargo past the Imperial blockade above Lothal. They were also to rendezvous with the crime lord Azmorigan to acquire some "mining equipment." Hera, with reluctance, accepted Calrissian's proposition, permitting the "galactic entrepreneur" to board the Ghost.

After reaching Azmorigan's freighter, the Merchant One, Calrissian seemingly "sold" Hera to the crime lord in exchange for the "mining equipment." Unbeknownst to Azmorigan, Lando was planning to deceive him and had secretly instructed Hera to escape after the transaction. Once Calrissian and Kanan Jarrus were back on the Ghost, Hera incapacitated Azmorigan and one of his guards and fled in an escape pod. Despite her annoyance at Calrissian for his lack of prior warning about the ruse, Hera consented to transport him back to his farm on Lothal. Calrissian had acquired this farmland from the crime lord Cikatro Vizago through Azmorigan.

The mission

A perilous journey

As they traveled back to Lothal, Zeb and Ezra decided to investigate Lando's new "mining equipment." Disregarding Calrissian's instructions, the two rebels opened the crate, revealing a puffer pig. The creature escaped and caused chaos throughout the Ghost. The rebels and Calrissian eventually managed to corner the puffer pig in the narrow corridor leading to the cockpit. During the chase, Zeb startled the creature, causing it to inflate, which created a new obstacle for the rebels and Calrissian because Hera was unable to reach the cockpit, while Kanan, Zeb, and Ezra were trapped on the other side.

Shortly after, the Ghost exited hyperspace above Lothal, which was surrounded by an Imperial fleet. To avoid detection, the rebels employed a signature modulator to disguise their ship as the Tontine, a legitimate vessel from Boz Pity. The Imperials were deceived and allowed the Ghost to proceed. As the Ghost neared Lothal, Calrissian attempted to flirt with Sabine Wren. When Ezra attempted to climb over the inflated puffer pig to warn off Calrissian, he startled the creature, causing it to inflate further. This sudden expansion caused Zeb to lose balance, disabling the ship's modulator when he fell onto the control panel.

Consequently, the Imperial crew aboard the Imperial Star Destroyer Relentless quickly identified the Tontine as the Ghost. Admiral Kassius Konstantine dispatched several TIE fighters to intercept and destroy the Ghost. Piloting the Ghost, Kanan and Zeb navigated the ship into Lothal's upper atmosphere and managed to evade most of the TIE fighters in the cloudy skies. Kanan also destroyed one of the TIE fighters with the Ghost's frontal laser cannons.

Showdown with Azmorigan

After escaping the Imperials, Kanan flew the Ghost to Calrissian's farm. Upon landing, Azmorigan and his henchmen confronted the rebels and Calrissian, seeking to reclaim his puffer pig. The crime lord demanded the return of his puffer pig, Syndulla, the Ghost and her crew as compensation, and Calrissian's death. When Hera attempted to reason with Azmorigan, the crime lord lost patience and ordered his men to kill the rebels and Calrissian, which sparked a gun battle between the two groups.

Sabine and Calrissian shot two of Azmorigan's henchmen, while Zeb startled the puffer pig again, causing it to inflate and knock out another two of Azmorigan's men. Kanan and his Padawan Ezra also joined the fight. Ezra, concealing his Jedi identity, shot another of Azmorigan's men with his lightsaber-blaster. Chopper then seized the opportunity to steal several of Calrissian's fuel canisters as "compensation" for the trouble he had caused. Within minutes, Sabine had climbed onto the roof of Calrissian's homestead and held two more of Azmorigan's men at gunpoint.

Despite the rebels' successes, Azmorigan gained the upper hand by taking Zeb hostage. He restated his terms, threatening to kill Zeb unless the rebels surrendered Calrissian, promising to release them once they complied. However, Hera refused his offer. Chopper, back aboard the Ghost, used the ship's frontal turret to knock Azmorigan and Zeb to the ground. With Azmorigan defeated, Hera allowed him and two of his surviving henchmen to leave if they did not trouble Calrissian again. As they departed, Sabine fired at the gangsters' feet to hasten their retreat.

Aftermath

Following the job, Lando Calrissian fulfilled his promise to return Chopper to the Spectres. However, Chopper's theft of the fuel canister prevented Lando from paying them the promised credits, claiming he never had them. He considered the stolen fuel as the Spectres' payment. Later, Calrissian returned a favor to the Spectres by assisting them in escaping the planet during the Imperial Siege of Lothal. Although offworld, Calrissian arranged for his servant droid W1-LE to equip their stolen shuttle with sensor buoys that disrupted the Imperial fleet's sensors, allowing them to escape the Imperial blockade unhindered.

Hera's decision to spare Azmorigan's life would later have consequences for Ezra. While on a job with the pirate Hondo Ohnaka, Ezra and Hondo encountered Azmorigan on Nixus Hub 218. Recognizing Ezra as one of the rebels who had confronted him on Lothal, Azmorigan decided to execute him and Hondo by catapulting them into space via a loading dolley. Before Azmorigan could enact his revenge, Chopper arrived and drove away Azmorigan and his men. During the brief confrontation, Ezra revealed his Jedi identity by using his lightsaber to deflect Azmorigan's blaster shots and using the Force to pull Ohnaka to safety.

Behind the scenes

The mission to Calrissian's farm was first depicted in the Star Wars Rebels episode "Idiot's Array," which aired on January 12, 2015. This episode also marked the return of Lando Calrissian from the Original trilogy, with Billy Dee Williams reprising his role for the TV series. The mission also introduced Azmorigan as a new secondary antagonist, voiced by James Hong. Hong had previously voiced Endente in the unfinished The Clone Wars Legacy episodes "In Search of the Crystal" and "Crystal Crisis."
