Plot summary

Working for Calrissian

Lando admires Sabine's artwork as Chopper watches

Kanan Jarrus, Garazeb Orrelios, and Chopper find themselves at Old Jho's Pit Stop due to the Ghost crew's lack of funds. Jho, the Ithorian bartender, informs Kanan that he is unaware of any available employment, but mentions that the stranger engaged in a sabacc game with Zeb is seeking to hire a ship and crew. Kanan settles his tab and approaches the gambling table. Tsoklo, the Rodian, is the third player, but he quickly withdraws as the stakes escalate. Zeb, confident in his hand, decides to wager Chopper, having exhausted his funds. Kanan has reservations, but agrees upon seeing Zeb's cards. Zeb reveals his Pure Sabacc, but is surprised when the stranger reveals his Idiot's Array. Enraged, Zeb demands the stranger's identity, who introduces himself as "Lando Calrissian," and requests to meet his newly acquired droid.

Later, Kanan, Zeb, Chopper, and Lando arrive at the Ghost, where Hera Syndulla, Sabine Wren, and Ezra Bridger await in the cargo hold. Zeb hastily explains himself to Hera, as Chopper hits his leg. Hera questions Zeb, but Kanan intervenes to introduce Lando, explaining his need to smuggle cargo past the Imperial blockade. Lando confirms with Hera that he and Kanan have agreed on a price, and asks if Kanan requires her approval. Kanan and Lando shake hands, with Lando promising payment and the return of their droid upon completion of the job, making Kanan uncomfortable. Hera demands an explanation, and Zeb sheepishly admits to betting Chopper, shocking Hera, Ezra, and Sabine. Zeb claims Kanan approved, prompting Hera to scold Kanan. Lando interrupts, emphasizing the need to retrieve his cargo and suggesting that success will resolve any disputes.

During the journey to Lando's rendezvous, he attempts to charm Hera, much to Kanan's annoyance. Kanan points out the broken signature modulator and orders Chopper to repair it. The astromech droid responds with beeps, and Hera reminds them that he is no longer part of the crew. Lando requests a tour of the ship from Chopper, further irritating Kanan. In the common room, Lando admires Sabine's starbird, comparing it to the protest paintings of Janyor from Bith. Ezra reminds them that he previously praised Sabine's work, to which she replies that he didn't know why. Meanwhile, Chopper serves his new master a hot drink, prompting Zeb to remark that he can't believe the cantankerous droid is serving "that guy." Ezra expresses disbelief that Zeb lost Chopper, and Zeb suspects Lando cheated. Sabine offers to show Lando more of her "impressionistic pieces," and he accepts, calling himself an "impressionistic connoisseur." Lando attempts to explain the word to Ezra, who retorts that he already knows. After Sabine and Lando leave, Ezra asks Zeb what "connoisseur" means, and Zeb replies that it means "A lot less than [Lando] thinks."

Swindling Azmorigan

Lando swindles Azmorigan, earning the crime lord's wrath

The Ghost meets the freighter Merchant One shortly thereafter. Lando, Hera, and Kanan board, with Lando instructing the rebels to cooperate. Hera expresses concern, and Lando reassures her by pointing out the escape pods. The three are escorted to Azmorigan, the Jablogian enslaver, who is eating fruit. Azmorigan gestures to a hovering crate, stating that he has what Lando ordered, and asks what the smuggler offers in return. Lando pushes Hera forward, presenting her as a slave girl, to the horror of her and Kanan. Kanan protests, but Hera, still angry about the situation, tells him that "a deal's a deal." She is insulted when Azmorigan dismisses her attire as "preposterous," but he accepts the deal. Hera "thanks" Lando for her situation, promising to "repay" him. Kanan and Lando return to the Ghost with the crate.

Back on board, Sabine asks about Hera's whereabouts, and Kanan angrily demands an explanation from Lando. Lando replies that Hera is following his plan, and that they should cooperate to retrieve her. Kanan demands to know the "plan," and Lando states that he told her to take an escape pod. Kanan snaps that Lando said no such thing, and Lando insists he did, asking if Kanan was paying attention. Sabine sarcastically remarks that Kanan is having a good day, having lost Chopper and Hera. After the Ghost undocks from the Merchant One, Lando takes his crate to the cargo hold and instructs Ezra and Zeb not to open it, claiming it contains sensitive mining equipment. As Lando leaves, Ezra notes that the equipment is snoring.

Meanwhile, back on Azmorigan's freighter, the slaver asks Hera if she needs food. Disgusted, Hera declines, but suggests that she serve him. He agrees, and she takes the tray of fruit from the protocol droid. Hera then suggests that Azmorigan dine alone, and he orders his guards out. As Azmorigan reaches for fruit, Hera knocks him out with the tray, telling him to "take the whole tray," and exits the room, telling the guard at the door that the master wants some "alone time" while she changes clothes. Hera then knocks out the guard with the tray, discards it, and heads for the escape pods. As Hera's pod launches, Azmorigan is found by his guards, and demands his "property" back. On the Ghost, Lando points out Hera's escape pod to an angry Kanan, and Sabine escorts Lando out of the cockpit to prep the airlock. As soon as Hera is on board, Lando announces via intercom that they should leave, and Kanan grumbles that "somebody should." In the airlock, Hera hits Lando in the groin as payment for "selling" her to Azmorigan, and Lando admits he deserved it. Hera demands to know the contents of the crate, and Lando offers to show her.

The puffer pig and Imperial entanglements

Lando's puffer pig

In the Ghost's cargo hold, Ezra and Zeb, curious about Lando's "mining equipment," disobey instructions and open the crate. A puffer pig emerges, and Ezra finds her "kinda cute." Zeb startles the animal, and she flees up the ladder, prompting Ezra and Zeb to chase her. On the upper deck, they pass Lando, Hera, and Sabine emerging from the airlock, and Lando warns them not to scare her. In the hallway to the cockpit, Zeb grabs the pig. Seeing that the pig is spooked by the Lasat, Lando warns Zeb again, and Zeb insists he's not scaring her. In response, the frightened pig inflates and blocks the hallway, trapping Lando, Sabine, Hera, and Chopper on one side, and Ezra, Zeb, and Kanan on the other. Kanan emerges from the cockpit, demanding to know what's happening. When Ezra tries to explain, Kanan decides he doesn't want to know.

Shortly after, the Ghost exits hyperspace above Lothal, near a blockade of Imperial Star Destroyers. Kanan remarks that he needs Hera in the cockpit, on his side of the pig. Hera asks Lando what the Empire might be scanning for, and when he suggests "rebels," she insists "Besides that." He suggests mining equipment, and admits to smuggling some to Lothal the previous week. Lando explains that the Empire won't detect the organic puffer pig if the Ghost masks its signature. Hera retorts that the signature modulator is broken, and Lando laughs. He asks Chopper to be a "hero" and fix it. Aboard the ISD Relentless, a scanning technician informs Admiral Kassius Konstantine that the Corellian freighter resembles the rebel ship they're looking for. Chopper activates the Ghost's signature modulator, making it appear to be the Tontine, a legitimate freighter authorized for travel between Boz Pity and Lothal. Konstantine orders the ship to prepare for scanning.

As the Ghost flies through the blockade, Lando flirts with Sabine, offering to purchase her work, irritating Ezra. He attempts to reach Lando and Sabine by climbing over the pig. Kanan, unaware of Ezra's actions, tempts fate by remarking that they're going to make it. Zeb tries to stop Ezra, but Ezra irritates the pig, causing it to inflate further, flinging Zeb into the controls and disabling the modulator. Onboard the Relentless, the technician informs Konstantine that the freighter's signal was masked, and the Admiral orders the Imperial forces to open fire. Kanan and Zeb pilot the Ghost towards Lothal. Zeb notes that Hera usually returns fire, and Kanan snaps that he's not Hera and is struggling to evade the TIEs. Sabine, manning the rear cannon, shoots down one of the fighters. Hera tells Kanan to head for cloud cover. In the clouds, Kanan loses the TIEs, doubles back, and shoots them down. He tells Hera he understands her job as a pilot, and Lando remarks to Hera that Kanan finally appreciates her. Hera scolds Lando for trying to "divide and conquer" the crew, stating that teamwork is essential. Ezra, trapped between the inflated pig and the ceiling, asks for help.

Trouble with Azmorigan

The Ghost evading the Imperial blockade

After escaping, the Ghost arrives at Lando's farm. As the crew and Lando disembark, he mentions buying the farm from "Vizago." Hera asks why the pig was so important, and Lando explains that puffer pigs can smell precious minerals, making them effective mining scanners. Hera notes that the Empire opposes private mining on Lothal. Kanan demands payment, and the crew will leave. At that moment, Azmorigan and his henchmen reveal themselves, interrupting with a familiar voice. Lando is shocked that Azmorigan found him, and Azmorigan reminds Lando that he introduced him to Vizago. Surprised, Lando mocks the overweight slaver for walking to the farm. Azmorigan retorts that he will do anything to reclaim his property. Hera asks what Azmorigan wants, and he demands the return of the puffer pig, Hera, the Ghost, her crew, and Lando's death as compensation.

Hera refuses, and Kanan suggests reconsidering the last demand. She reiterates her refusal, and Azmorigan orders his men to open fire. A gunfight ensues, and Sabine shoots one of the henchmen. Chopper steals a fuel canister. Ezra, taking cover with Kanan, uses his lightsaber-blaster. Kanan is initially worried that Ezra will reveal himself as a Jedi. Ezra tells his master that he worries too much and shoots one of Azmorigan's henchmen, impressing Kanan. On Hera's orders, Zeb frightens the puffer pig, causing her to inflate and knock over two of Azmorigan's henchmen. Sabine uses the animal as a stepping stool to reach the farmhouse roof and hold the remaining henchmen at gunpoint.

Sabine and Zeb battle Azmorigan and his men on Lothal

Azmorigan takes advantage of Zeb's distraction to hold the Lasat at gunpoint. He threatens to kill Zeb if they don't surrender Lando. Kanan and Ezra swiftly agree, but Hera overrules them, denying Azmorigan anything. Chopper, on board the Ghost, fires the ship's nose gun at Azmorigan, throwing him and Zeb to the ground. Zeb retrieves his bo-rifle and holds Azmorigan at gunpoint, thanking Chopper. Hera tells Azmorigan and his remaining henchmen that they'll spare their lives, and orders them to leave. As the crime lord leaves, Sabine fires at the henchmen's feet to make them run.

Resolution

After Azmorigan flees, Lando remarks that he dislikes sparing Azmorigan. Hera retorts that Lando owes the Ghost crew money, which she suspects he never had. Lando offers to return Chopper, but Hera states that that won't satisfy his debt. He suggests a game of sabacc, and Hera responds that he'll just have to owe her one. Chopper approaches Lando, who bids farewell, stating that they will meet again. Chopper slaps Lando and rolls off. As the Spectres board the Ghost, Ezra tells Sabine that he always appreciated her, and she tiredly acknowledges it. Kanan and Hera discuss their need for money and fuel, as Kanan doesn't see Chopper's return as a positive. In the cargo hold, the crew discovers that Chopper stole some of Lando's fuel, and Zeb asks if Chopper was playing Lando the entire time. Sabine congratulates the astromech, and the Ghost departs. Lando watches, acknowledging that Chopper stole the fuel, which is why he didn't pay the rebels. He waves, believing that they shall meet again.
