Enslaver

DartsDnar-SWE Darts D'Nar, a Zygerrian enslaver

The term enslaver, also known as a slaver or slave trader, denotes an individual involved in the commerce, trading, or control of enslaved people. As an example, we can look at Darts D'Nar, a Zygerrian who engaged in enslavement activities during the Clone Wars. Another example is Azmorigan, a Jablogian enslaver whose operations took place during the period of the Galactic Empire's rule.

History

Wookiees hailing from Kashyyyk were highly valued by those who dealt in enslavement due to their extended lifespans, physical strength, and intellectual capabilities as a species. Asajj Ventress was abducted by an enslaver when she was just a baby.

During the era of the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems reinstated the Zygerrian Slave Empire as a subservient state. Utilizing the might of the Separatist Droid Army, the Zygerrians were able to seize and enslave the Togruta inhabitants of the Kiros colony. Subsequently, a rescue mission was initiated, with Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and Clone Captain Rex forming the team.

Behind the scenes

When drafting the young-adult novel Queen's Shadow, which was made available on March 5, 2019, the author E. K. Johnston collaborated with an editor to guarantee that the book's depiction of enslavement employed active language instead of passive terms. This specifically referred to using "enslaver" instead of "a slaver." Similarly, the novel Master & Apprentice authored by Claudia Gray, which was launched on April 16 of the same year, featured enslavement as a key element of the narrative. Gray mentioned that she also leaned towards using "enslavement" and "slavers" unless the context allowed for different phrasing to ensure sensitivity. Gray noted that the instances of "slave" and "slaver" that she retained in Master & Apprentice were included to avoid softening the concept too much. She reasoned that cruel individuals would be indifferent to objectifying others and, therefore, would opt to use derogatory terms when referring to those working under their command.
