Boushh

Boushh was a male Ubese individual hailing from Uba IV, whose profession was that of a bounty hunter. Following his relatively unknown death at the hands of the Black Sun criminal organization, Princess Leia Organa took on his identity as a disguise, with the goal of infiltrating Jabba's Palace and liberating Han Solo.

Biography

Bounty hunting career

Born on the planet of Uba IV, Boushh departed from his homeworld at his earliest opportunity. The Ubese male eventually established a reputation as a very dangerous and skilled bounty hunter despite his smaller size, and worked for numerous employers throughout his career.

At some point in his life, Boushh experienced the loss of his family; he discovered a settlement engulfed in fire, and despite his grief, others questioned his involvement. He was subsequently exiled from Uba IV, and his official records were expunged. Eventually, Boushh became the leader of a crew composed of fellow exiled Ubese bounty hunters: Brene, Hareck, Ilini, and Tans.

Sometime between 19 BBY and 4 ABY, Boushh provided assistance to Jabba the Hutt in the pursuit of Max Rebo's brother, Azool Phantelle. Boushh made an attempt to intercept Phantelle by launching a missile launcher at the fleeing Ortolans, but instead, he amplified the chaos within the streets of Mos Eisley.

Ord Mantell

In 4 ABY, Boushh's location was Ord Mantell, where he crossed paths with Princess Leia Organa, the Wookiee Chewbacca, and the astromech droid R2-D2, all of whom were members of the Rebel Alliance and had journeyed to the planet aboard the Millennium Falcon. These wanted individuals were seeking assistance from Maz Kanata regarding the recently captured Han Solo, who was being held in carbonite by Jabba the Hutt.

Leading the rebels through a narrow alley, Kanata reassured the worried Leia Organa that patience would lead to a solution. Before Organa could respond, Boushh launched an assault on the group. However, after a brief exchange involving blaster fire and melee combat, Leia Organa calmly disarmed Boushh, and R2-D2 subsequently incapacitated him using nearby machinery, followed by Maz Kanata stunning him unconscious. Organa then took Boushh's armor to use as a disguise, as suggested by Kanata, to assist in her plan to infiltrate Jabba's Palace and rescue Han Solo.

Demise and legacy

Leia Organa, disguised as the late Boushh, before Jabba the Hutt

Boushh's career reached its conclusion in that year when he attempted to blackmail the Black Sun crime syndicate, which led to his death. Leia Organa capitalized on the fact that Boushh's death was not widely publicized, using his armor and helmet for infiltration missions. Rumors suggest that Lord Gyuti was responsible for Boushh's death, following a failed deal between the Black Sun leader and the bounty hunter.

On one such occasion, Organa made use of the armor on Arkanis to rescue Lando Calrissian from other bounty hunters, including the notorious Trandoshan Bossk. By solidifying Boushh's reputation with Bossk, Leia Organa's preparations for rescuing Han Solo were nearing completion.

Employing her deception once more at Jabba's Palace, Organa secured Boushh's presence at the Hutt's criminal headquarters. However, Boba Fett had already informed Jabba that the individual under the helmet was not actually Boushh; Jabba assumed it was a smuggler utilizing Boushh's armor and helmet. She stopped wearing Boushh's attire after her identity was exposed during her attempt to extract Han Solo. In The Secrets of the Bounty Hunters, the pirate Hondo Ohnaka speculated that, because Boushh's true identity remained concealed under his armor, the bounty hunter might still be alive in secret.

Equipment

Boushh's helmet boasted many functions.

Heavily armored in his unique bounty hunter gear, he wore a complete leather outfit, gloves, and a helmet that concealed his head, equipped with a metal speech scrambler and a head bracket that included a vision-plus scanner and an integrated targeting laser. Boushh's weapon of choice was a long lance with a shock blade at its tip.

Behind the scenes

The character of Boushh was created for the 1983 Star Wars film Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. In the movie, Leia Organa impersonates Boushh in an effort to negotiate with Jabba the Hutt regarding the price of Chewbacca. Pat Welsh provided Boushh's vocal sounds during his communications with Jabba. In Star Wars Forces of Destiny, Matt Lanter provided the voice for Boushh.
