Azool Phantelle, an Ortolan criminal, was also the brother of Maximilian Rebo, the musician. During the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, Phantelle once swindled some people in the Mos Eisley spaceport on the planet Tatooine. After the victims confused the musician with his criminal sibling, Phantelle was forced to rescue Rebo, who responded by throwing the criminal's stolen money back to the mob chasing them. Jabba Desilijic Tiure, the Hutt crime lord, later found out about Phantelle's misdeeds, which occurred within his territory, and punished Phantelle by making him serve drinks on the Hutt's sail barge, known as the Khetanna.
During the Galactic Empire's [reign](/article/imperial_era], Azool Phantelle, an Ortolan, worked as a thief. He was the brother of Maximilian Rebo, who was the leader of the Max Rebo Band. Rebo had a mother, and Jeph Rebo, a musician, was his father. Rebo was happy, several years prior to 4 ABY, that the wayward Phantelle did not attempt to claim the family's residence in Cheddatown on the planet Orto.

After Phantelle scammed some of the inhabitants of the spaceport of Mos Eisley on the planet of Tatooine, the victims mistook Rebo for Phantelle and started chasing the musician. While running towards Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina, Rebo then ran into two Imperial stormtroopers. Before the troopers could punish him for the collision, Phantelle saw Rebo while riding by on a speeder bike and rescued his brother from danger, pulling him onto the bike.
As the pair sped away from the angry locals and stormtroopers, Rebo scolded Phantelle for his criminal lifestyle and worried that Jabba Desilijic Tiure, the Hutt crime lord who employed Rebo, would punish both of them for Phantelle's crimes, as they occurred within the lord's territory. Phantelle, unconcerned, dodged a missile fired by one of their pursuers, after which Rebo brought the chase to an end by grabbing Phantelle's bag of stolen funds and throwing it's contents to the people chasing them.

Phantelle, upset by the loss of his stolen goods, stopped to watch the locals fighting over the scattered currency. Jabba and his entourage confronted the pair as they stood watching and demanded to know what was happening. After Rebo explained what had happened to the crime lord, Jabba angrily threatened Phantelle. Because the criminal was related to Rebo, Jabba decided to spare him and instead punished him by forcing him to work as a waiter on his personal sail barge, the Khetanna.
Later, Emil Graf, the cartographer, was reminded of Phantelle and Rebo's case of mistaken identity when he was wrongly accused of stealing a pair of laser-calipers from his BB-series astromech droid, BB-00, when the true culprit was Noni, the Kowakian monkey-lizard. Graf then recounted the story to BB-00, Noni, and the droid CR-8R. Graf imagined himself riding with Phantelle on the Ortolan's speeder bike during the era of the First Order, while experiencing a stream of disjointed memories that were being fed upon by a Tarinna on the planet Nelgenam.

Azool Phantelle thought that swindling civilians was fun and that his brother, Max Rebo, was too afraid of letting go. When Rebo threw Phantelle's stolen currency from the back of the speeder bike they were riding to distract their pursuers, Phantelle was upset by the loss of wealth. He was not concerned about the risk of Jabba catching him stealing on the Hutt's territory, but when he was actually confronted by the crime lord, Phantelle was intimidated and accepted a humiliating punishment. Phantelle had blue skin and black eyes. He looked very similar to his brother.
Phantelle wore a black jacket and rode a speeder bike. While he was forced to work on the Khetanna, he wore a drinks tray on his head.
Azool Phantelle's first appearance was in "Tales from Wild Space: The Blue Brothers," a comic strip written and illustrated by Nick Brokenshire and published in the 2018 comic book Star Wars Adventures (2017) 13.
