Brene was among the Ubese exiles who comprised the bounty hunter team under the leadership of Boushh. She became his first recruit after he saved her from a rancor.
Brene, a Ubese female bounty hunter, served as a member of the crew led by her fellow Ubese, Boushh. By the time the War of the Bounty Hunters unfolded, she had been exiled from Uba IV for a period of seven years, with six of those years spent as a member of Boushh's crew. Their initial encounter involved Boushh's rescue of Brene from a rancor, after which he advised her to flee; subsequently, she became his first follower. Later, fellow exiles Ilini, Hareck, and Tans also joined the group.
The crew of Boushh, which included Brene, were once employed by Silas Tagge, the brother of Lady Domina Tagge, with the intention of assassinating the Tagge Corporation's Executive Board as part of a coup attempt. However, Domina, with the aid of her Honor Guard, successfully foiled her brother's plot, and subsequently hired the crew for her own purposes. Brene, along with her colleagues, defended their employer from an assassination attempt orchestrated by Crimson Dawn and her nephew, Ronen Tagge. Lady Domina also defended herself using the Tagge protoblade. Tans commented on their employer's intimidating nature, a sentiment to which Brene enthusiastically agreed, prompting Ilini to remark on Brene's questionable taste.
In addition to her native Ubese, Brene demonstrated proficiency in understanding and speaking the Galactic Basic Standard language.
Brene's debut occurred in the one-shot issue War of the Bounty Hunters – Boushh 1, a component of the comic book crossover event titled Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters, penned by Alyssa Wong and brought to life by the illustrations of David Baldeón. Wong further elaborated on details from her script notes via Twitter, including observations regarding Brene's personality and her designated she/her pronouns. Her name is an homage to the Breen species from Star Trek. The author later substantiated Brene's gender identity and shared additional script insights from a scene featured in the series' twenty-eighth issue.
