Felucia

Felucia, previously called Galush before the establishment of the Galactic Republic, was a planet characterized by its vibrant colors, high humidity, and dense jungles. It was situated within the Felucia system in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. The Commerce Guild maintained its headquarters there, and the planet's primary agricultural product was nysillin, a valuable crop predominantly cultivated by the indigenous Felucian tribes. Its strategic importance along the Perlemian Trade Route, combined with its nysillin production, made it a significant battleground during the Clone Wars.

Description

The jungles of Felucia during the Outer Rim Sieges.

Located remotely in the Felucia system, Felucia was a world teeming with life, particularly its dense, colorful, and humid jungles, uniquely composed of various fungal species. Scattered throughout the jungle were small farming communities inhabited by the native Felucians, along with occasional urban centers, including Kway Teow, the capital. The Commerce Guild held governance over Felucia, representing the planet's commercial interests on a galactic scale.

This world was abundant with life, serving as habitat for various non-sentient species such as Gelagrubs, jungle rancors, and tee-muss. Despite its seemingly minor significance, its strategic location and valuable resources, including the healing plant nysillin, attracted multiple conflicts both in orbit and on the planet's surface.

History

Colonization and Republic Era

The Gossam species initiated the colonization of Felucia, with their initial expedition arriving around 27,000 BBY. Before it became known as Felucia, it was called Galush, a name that persisted until sometime after the Galactic Republic was established. The Gossams, aiming to exploit the planet's nysillin resources, exerted pressure on the native Felucian tribes to expand their agricultural activities by clearing extensive areas of jungle, claiming a shared ancestry. The Commerce Guild, a vast galactic organization, established its headquarters just outside the walled city of Kway Teow.

During the Republic Era in 60 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn faced trials on Felucia. He entered a romantic relationship with someone, which led to him falling in love and violating the Jedi Code. This conflict between his love and his commitment to the Jedi way severely tested his dedication to the Jedi Order. Ultimately, Jinn remained loyal to the Order, though the experience remained a sensitive topic for him. He also received a Mustafar fire diamond, which he cherished.

Clone Wars

Felucia, strategically important for its control of the Perlemian Trade Route and valuable for its nysillin production, became the site of numerous battles between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. As the location of the Commerce Guild headquarters, a place where the healing herb nysillin was cultivated, and a key planet in the Outer Rim, Felucia emerged as a vital planet for Republic operations in the sector. In 21 BBY, the first battle saw Republic forces, led by Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and Plo Koon, being dislodged by a Separatist blockade and subsequent onslaught under the command of General Grievous. Overwhelmed by CIS forces who exploited the jungle environment, the Jedi and their armies were forced to retreat. Small groups of battle droids consistently attacked the Republic tanks, which struggled to navigate the dense vegetation. The Clone forces and their commanders successfully evacuated the planet, leaving it under Separatist control.

Felucian farmers guard their nysillin farm on Felucia

Later in the war, Separatist forces destroyed the Republic medical station orbiting the planet as their final act to secure complete control, deploying an automated Vulture droid deployment station to protect their hold on the system. Around this time, a nysillin farming community faced terror from Hondo Ohnaka's Florrum-based pirate gang, who stole their crop harvest. In response, the farmers hired a group of bounty hunters, including Sugi, Embo, Seripas and Rumi Paramita. This group was later joined by stranded Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Ahsoka Tano. With their combined efforts, the farmers were able to fend off the pirate band and protect their village. Following this, both the Jedi and bounty hunters departed from the planet.

In 20 BBY, Republic Army units, commanded by Generals Koon and Skywalker, and Commander Tano, engaged in combat on the planet's surface, attempting to regain control from the Confederacy. After days of jungle warfare, the Jedi and their troops neared the capture of the droid outpost. General Grievous dispatched reinforcements to bolster the position, understanding that holding the outpost was crucial to rendering the Republic's efforts futile, as all they would gain would be dangerous and empty forest. Nevertheless, the assault concluded with the destruction of the Separatist outpost, paving the way for the retaking of Felucia, but also resulting in Ahsoka Tano's abduction by rogue Trandoshan hunters.

An AAT flanked by battle droids move through Felucia's jungles.

A squad from the 104th Battalion, including clone troopers Wildfire and Umbra, found themselves stranded on Felucia for a month, surviving on insects. The Vulture droid fighter DFS-081 participated in a battle over Felucia. Units like Clone Force 99 also fought on the planet, successfully executing a team maneuver to destroy several Separatist battle droids.

The third and final battle for Felucia occurred during the Outer Rim Sieges, with the 327th Star Corps patrolling its jungles. Led by Jedi Master Aayla Secura and Clone Commander Bly, the 327th were tasked with capturing Separatist Council member Shu Mai. The Republic force consisted of at least one AT-TE, AT-APss, AT-OTss, Infantry Support Platforms, a number of 327th clones, and domesticated gelagrubs. Separatist forces included at least two AATs and several OG-9 Homing spider droids. However, before any engagement commenced, Secura was executed by her own clones following the implementation of Order 66.

Under the Empire

During Berch Teller's campaign, Moff Wilhuff Tarkin suggested that Felucia may be a target for Teller, although Darth Vader disagreed (Tarkin and Vader during Teller's campaign, pictured).

Following the end of the Clone Wars and the Separatists' defeat, Felucia came under the rule of Emperor Palpatine's new Galactic Empire. During this period, the Imperial Military maintained a significant garrison in the [Felucia system](/article/felucia_system]. However, the extensive combat during the Clone Wars left the planet devastated. Consequently, Moff Wilhuff Tarkin suggested it as a potential target for Berch Teller's insurgents, as retribution for the Republic's neglect; however, Darth Vader dismissed this idea, and the rebels instead attacked Lucazec.

Around 10 BBY, Lando Calrissian executed a risky smuggling run on Felucia to settle his debts with Dryden Vos of Crimson Dawn. Afterward, while relaxing at the Lodge on Vandor, he was approached by Tobias Beckett and his gang to transport them to Kessel. Rebel Kanan Jarrus had a contact on Felucia, to whom the Spectres delivered a crate after their mission to steal Imperial research crates between 5 BBY and 4 BBY. During Operation Starlight, the Star Destroyer Tarkin's Will ambushed Starlight Squadron, a unit of the Alliance to Restore the Republic's Fourth Division, in deep space near Felucia.

Behind the scenes

Felucia was conceived for the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, the concluding installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.

Initial concept art for Felucia portrayed a world with massive, bulbous plants exuding antigravitic goo into the atmosphere, which later evolved into the planet Saleucami (then named "Falucia"). Originally intended for an opening montage of Confederacy planets under assault by the Galactic Republic, Felucia was ultimately used in the Order 66 sequence, serving as the location of the death of the fan-favorite Aayla Secura.

Some early concept art from January 2013 for the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens featured Felucia, with images drawn by Dave Filoni, Erik Tiemens, Kurt Kaufman, and Yanick Dusseault depicting the Millennium Falcon landing by a lake, and a figure with a red lightsaber overlooking the ship. This planet was seemingly replaced by what eventually became Takodana.
