Tobias Beckett's crew, which was also referred to as Beckett's gang or Tobias Beckett's group, was a criminal organization headed by Tobias Beckett at some point during the rule of the Galactic Empire. Beckett put together this team of skilled rogues to execute lucrative, yet dangerous, robberies. Val specialized in explosives, and Rio Durant served as the pilot. The smuggler Han Solo received an offer to join the team.
The initial glimpse of Tobias Beckett's crew occurred in the initial preview of the then-forthcoming Star Wars Anthology Series movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, specifically the "Big Game" TV advertisement that aired during Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018.
Original story concepts for Solo featured another member of the group, a "squid-monkey" named Zapf, who was eventually merged into the character of Rio Durant.
