Rare diamonds known as Mustafar fire diamonds originated from the planet Mustafar, situated in the Outer Rim. A Jedi Padawan, Qui-Gon Jinn, received one such diamond from his paramour on Felucia, another Outer Rim planet, in 60 BBY, treasuring it as a keepsake for two decades. In 40 BBY, he gifted the item to jewel thieves, Pax Maripher and Rahara Wick, as gratitude for their assistance during his mission on Pijal, a planet in the Inner Rim.

During the Republic Era, Mustafar fire diamonds were regarded as being of greater worth than Gamorrean coral, yet of lesser worth than meryx gemstones. The collection of these costly diamonds was already considered a challenging task at that time. While present on the Outer Rim planet Felucia in 60 BBY, Qui-Gon Jinn, who was then a Jedi Padawan, obtained a Mustafar fire diamond from his paramour. For the subsequent twenty years, he kept it securely in a pouch on his utility belt as a treasured reminder of their shared memories and the moment of its presentation.
In 40 BBY, the jewel thieves Pax Maripher and Rahara Wick briefly spoke of collecting Mustafar fire diamonds while aboard their Gozanti-class cruiser, the Meryx. However, they instead chose to seek kyber crystals on the Inner Rim planet Pijal, with Wick deeming the diamond collection a more unpleasant endeavor than working on Gamorr, an Outer Rim planet she found repulsive.
While on Pijal, the duo encountered Jinn—now a Jedi Master—and aided him in his mission to find the Opposition performance group. As a gesture of gratitude for their assistance, Jinn bestowed his fire diamond upon Maripher and Wick. Maripher questioned this decision, considering the gemstone's value, which was sufficient to cover their work on the planet and sustain them financially for three years if they remained there. Nevertheless, Jinn still handed it to Wick, reflecting on the significance of his paramour's memento, but concluding that he could still cherish the memories linked to the diamond even without possessing it.
Mustafar fire diamonds made an appearance in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 novel penned by Claudia Gray. In an interview, Gray stated that the novel's concluding scene, where Jinn gives his former paramour's diamond to Maripher and Wick, symbolized his act of releasing his past relationship.
