Star Wars Rebels Season Two marks the sophomore year of the Star Wars Rebels animated TV show. The season kicked off with a special hour-long TV film, The Siege of Lothal, which aired on June 20, 2015. The regular episodes began broadcasting on October 14, 2015, starting with the episode titled "The Lost Commanders."
The making of the second season of the Star Wars Rebels animated series was officially given the green light on October 2, 2014, just a day before the debut of the series' initial movie, Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion. Dave Filoni and Simon Kinberg, who served as executive producers and creators for Season One, continued their involvement in these creative capacities for the second season. However, Greg Weisman, another executive producer, departed from the show after the first season concluded. Henry Gilroy, the series' supervising writer, stepped up to take his place as co-executive producer. Freddie Prinze Jr., the voice actor for Kanan Jarrus, mentioned that the cast had recorded almost double the number of episodes compared to the first season. The season officially consisted of 20 episodes, in addition to the television movie.
On December 11, 2014, it was revealed that the very first episode of season two would be shown for the first time at Celebration Anaheim from April 16 to 19, 2015. This premiere was followed by a repeat showing of the final two episodes from season one, along with a panel discussion featuring Filoni, Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall (the voice of Hera Syndulla), Tiya Sircar (the voice of Sabine Wren), Steve Blum (the voice of Garazeb Orrelios), and Taylor Gray (the voice of Ezra Bridger). The panel also offered an extended preview of more content from the season. Following the panel at Celebration Anaheim, it was confirmed that the season would begin with an hour-long movie during the summer months, with the individual episodes being broadcast on Disney XD in the fall. On April 30, 2015, the premiere date for the movie, Star Wars Rebels: The Siege of Lothal, was announced as June 20, 2015. On August 28, 2015, it was announced that the first regular episode would air on October 14, 2015. By the end of October 2015, the season's primary development had been completed, with only some minor adjustments taking place afterward.
