Proficient tailors possessed the ability to sew precise, straight seams, assess fabric quality, and utilized tools like scissors, sewing machines, mannequins, and paper patterns in their work. Among the clothing items created by tailors were gloves, socks, dresses, and formal wedding attire. Within the Galactic Empire, tailor-droids were deployed to obtain measurements for the production of uniforms for Imperial cadets attending the Academy for Young Imperials located on Lothal.
Located on the planet Merokia, the Nuq Sin family were middle-class tailors who managed a family-owned business throughout the New Republic Era. The married couple Tomar and Looway Nuq Sin were the operators of the business, which was previously managed by Tomar's mother, J'Hara, who had a reputation across the planet for her clothing designs before her retirement a few years prior to 30 ABY. Cornell, Tomar Nuq Sin's older brother, was also a tailor, and the Nuq Sins' son, Karr, was an apprentice in the craft. On the opposite side of Merokia, a trade school existed in the Taeltor Province, specializing in teaching tailoring to adults. Cornell was a highly respected and skilled instructor at the school, and when Karr Nuq Sin's health and academic struggles became too significant, his parents arranged for him to study tailoring with his uncle at the trade school, hoping he would enhance his skills and eventually establish his own business.
The planet Vjun was the home of well-known tailors who are remembered for weaving the cloak worn by Count Dooku.
The tailoring occupation was initially referenced in the 2014 canon Star Wars junior novel titled Servants of the Empire: Edge of the Galaxy by Jason Fry. It made its first appearance in the 2019 novel Force Collector authored by Kevin Shinick.
