During 32 BBY, mere moments before the commencement of the Boonta Eve Classic podrace, he dispatched a subordinate, an underling, with instructions to pilfer Anakin Skywalker's plasma ignition capacitor. The Jedi Master known as Qui-Gon Jinn pursued the underling, tracking him back to the scavenger's location. The scavenger declined to give back the capacitor, instead daring Jinn to retrieve it by force, resulting in his death during an exchange of blaster fire with the Jedi Master, who successfully recovered the stolen component and ensured its return to Skywalker before the race.
