The Protectors, officially designated as the Second Battalion of the Republic Medical Corps, functioned as a humanitarian unit. This division was deployed with the Republic Military throughout the galaxy on various battlefields. Their mission encompassed rescue efforts, reconnaissance, and the evacuation of civilians who found themselves in harm's way. This battalion acquired the moniker "Protectors" from a band of Corellian orphans during the Battle of Corellia, a conflict within the larger Galactic War fought between the Republic and the Sith Empire. Later, the Second Battalion was stationed on the doomed planet of Makeb, where their objective was to evacuate the populace as the world faced its imminent demise. Composed mainly of non-combatants, the Protectors consisted of civilians and former military personnel who volunteered their services.
