Second Lieutenant was a rank within military organizations, specifically a junior grade of lieutenant, ranking beneath First Lieutenant. This rank designation was employed by the armed forces of numerous galactic regimes, notably the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance. In the Grand Army of the Republic, Clone troopers also held this rank, positioned above a Sergeant-Major but below a full Lieutenant. Similar to Lieutenants, those holding the rank of 2nd Lieutenant had the authority to lead a platoon, and during the initial phases of the Clone Wars, they were identified by blue markings. The rank was also in use by the military of the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
