A sensor globe enabled the operation of ship-based sensor arrays. While having a distinct external form, a sensor dish was capable of executing similar functions.
Located atop Star Destroyers and Super Star Destroyers, sensor globes housed both long-range scanners and hyperwave transceiver coils, which constituted elements of the ship's com-scan system. These scanners were capable of relaying targeting data to the vessel's weaponry, thereby transforming them into potential targets once the primary shields were compromised during combat.
Furthermore, the sensor globes incorporated projector vanes that facilitated an auxiliary shielding system, limited to a localized effect. These vanes were arranged in a coronal configuration surrounding the sensor globes, collectively establishing the ISD-72x deflector shield generator dome system.
