The stun setting of the Sg-82 made certain that targets were subdued without causing any physical harm. The blast frequency, intensity, and vector could be easily manipulated using thumb controls. The power pack supplied the necessary energy for both the sonic blaster function and the stun club that was integrated into the weapon's handle.
The Sg-82, in conjunction with its smaller counterpart, the Sd-77 pistol variant, saw frequent use among private security organizations, including Santhe Security.
The Sg-82 sonic rifle was featured in the Star Wars Galaxies video game, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game that was created by Sony Online Entertainment and released by LucasArts, before the game's servers were shut down on December 15, 2011.
