Shadehouses were establishments utilized by the Seekers program. These facilities existed within the Chiss Ascendancy nation, situated in the Unknown Regions. The purpose of this program was to educate and ready young Chiss girls possessing abilities referred to as Third Sight. The end goal was for these girls to become part of the sky-walker corps and function as sky-walker navigators for the Expansionary Defense Fleet of the Ascendancy. Several Shadehouses were present within the Ascendancy, notably the Seekers' Shadehouse on the planet Ool, and Thearterra center which was based on the planet Thearterra.
A Shadehouse was featured in Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, a 2021 novel. This book is the concluding part of The Ascendancy Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.
