Foresight, also referred to as precognition, and known by the Chiss as "Third Sight," represented a Force ability that was wielded by Anakin Skywalker during his tenures as both a Jedi Knight and a Sith Lord. This allowed him to perceive future events, discerning the location and timing of impending assaults. Sifo-Dyas, a Jedi Master, possessed the gift of foresight, which secured him a position on the Jedi High Council. Among the Chiss species, those Force-sensitive individuals, predominantly females, were inherently endowed with precognitive capabilities from birth. Consequently, the Chiss utilized them as navigators and pilots aboard their ships, guiding them through the treacherous Unknown Regions and charting ephemeral hyperlanes. These Chiss navigators were known as ozyly-esehembo. The precognitive abilities necessary for safely navigating ships at the speed demanded by the Aristocras were unique to Chiss children and diminished with age, regardless of training. Vah'nya was an unusual Chiss as she retained her precognitive abilities beyond childhood. She also possessed Second Sight. Un'hee also demonstrated the ability to use precognition. The Bendu was also known to have precognitive talents. Following the Battle of Atollon, Thrawn engaged in a conversation with the Bendu, during which the Bendu foretold Thrawn's "defeat, like many arms surrounding [him] in a cold embrace." The Force-sensitive child Eila had the ability to use precognition.
The concept of precognition was initially introduced into Star Wars canon within the pages of the 2015 novel Aftermath, penned by Chuck Wendig. Its on-screen debut occurred in 2017 during the Zero Hour event, the concluding episode of Star Wars Rebels Season Three. In novel format, it first surfaced in Thrawn: Alliances, a work by Timothy Zahn that saw publication in 2018. Precognition was first established in Star Wars Legends within the 1995 novel Children of the Jedi, authored by Barbara Hambly.
