The Shadow creature existed as a being of pure energy and possessed sentience.
During the era of the Old Republic, the shadow creature journeyed to the planet [Oblis], situated within the Cularin system. It was attracted by the potent energy emanating from the Darkstaff, a Sith artifact residing on that world. The creature positioned itself above Oblis and initiated a process of merging with the planet's atmosphere, causing it to increase in size. The indigenous Oblee, feeling menaced by its presence, endeavored to eliminate it by fabricating three focusing crystals designed to channel the Darkstaff's energy. Nevertheless, when they discharged the weapon at the shadow creature, both the creature and the Oblee were scattered across the galaxy, and Oblis suffered complete destruction.
Millennia later, the creature made its way back to the Cularin system, drawn by the residual energy of the Almas Sith fortress, a Sith Temple erected by the Sith Lord known as Darth Rivan. However, upon its arrival, Rivan had already been vanquished, and the dark side's influence had diminished. Seeking refuge, the creature retreated to the Cularin asteroid belt, formed from the remnants of Oblis, and entered a state of dormancy. Its slumber was disrupted, however, by the construction of the Almas Academy on Almas and the Confederation Rock Rush, an event triggered by the opening of the asteroid belt around 31 BBY. The creature commenced to siphon energy from passing starships, ultimately enabling it to break free from the asteroid that had held it captive.
