Shenir Rix

A Mon Calamari female named Shenir Rix gained notoriety during the Galactic Civil War as one of the most dependable purveyors of information across the galaxy. Previously employed by Fergriss Pharmaceuticals, Rix found herself jobless after an Imperial attack forced the company to close its doors. Leveraging her business background and a talent for recognizing valuable insights, Rix reinvented herself as an informant. By 10 ABY, Rix became a regular fixture in upscale gambling houses, skillfully extracting crucial intelligence from affluent but unfortunate gamblers.

Biography

Shenir Rix, 10 ABY

Born on Mon Calamari in 20 BBY, Shenir Rix held a prominent position within Fergriss Pharmaceuticals. However, this changed when the Galactic Empire launched a devastating assault on the company's homeworld, effectively ending both the company's operations and Rix's career. Subsequently, Rix capitalized on her business acumen to embark on a new path as an information broker. By the time of the Battle of Yavin, during the Galactic Civil War, she had earned a reputation as one of the most skilled and trustworthy information dealers in the galaxy—though some criticized her for allegedly collaborating with the Empire against her own people.

As 10 ABY approached, Rix continued her work as an informant, frequenting some of the galaxy's most exclusive gambling establishments to buy and sell information. By ingratiating herself with wealthy and influential gamblers who were down on their luck, Rix managed to acquire a wealth of valuable intelligence. Her charm and reputation for honesty helped her avoid conflicts with some of the less scrupulous figures in her line of work. Despite this, the Empire labeled her a criminal, accusing her of illegally disseminating classified information and designating her as TracSheet Subject 55735573-QUUB-468835.

Personality and traits

Shenir Rix was a tall, slender Mon Calamari with brown skin exhibiting subtle olive mottling, and black eyes. Her height was 1.9 meters. Rix was known for her taste in expensive clothing and jewelry—by 10 ABY, she had added piercings above her right eye and in her right nostril.

After Fergriss Pharmaceuticals was destroyed by the Empire, Rix successfully translated her business skills and understanding of critical matters into a new profession as an information dealer. She became recognized as one of the galaxy's foremost informants and took pride in providing accurate and timely information. When Rix was the source, the information was guaranteed to be reliable. She only dealt in current, dependable intelligence, typically less than a day old; her Imperial TracSheet data in 10 ABY indicated that she never traded information older than twenty hours. Rix's charisma and honest reputation helped her remain on good terms with her competitors.

Rix's first name, "Shenir," came from a local spice found on the planet Mon Calamari, while her last name signified "secretive" in the Mon Calamarian language.

Skills and abilities

Rix possessed strong technical skills in computer programming and repair, along with knowledge of economics and law enforcement.

Equipment

Rix's equipment included datachips, a recording rod, and a hold-out blaster.

Behind the scenes

Shenir Rix was created for Galaxy Guide 11: Criminal Organizations, a 1994 sourcebook by West End Games written by Rick D. Stuart. She is presented as an example character of a criminal informant for use in Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Mike Vilardi created the illustration of Rix for the sourcebook.

Rix was subsequently featured in the 1998 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion as a playable character for the Galactic Empire. In the game, Rix is most effective as a spy, gathering information on Rebel systems and undertaking dangerous missions using her combat skills.

The 2003 Wizards of the Coast roleplaying sourcebook Galactic Campaign Guide listed "Shenir" and "Rix" among a collection of Mon Calamari names, providing their cultural meanings and translations.

Inconsistencies

Sources differ on the age of information Rix dealt with. Galaxy Guide 11, set in 10 ABY, states that Rix never trades information older than twenty hours; the Star Wars: Rebellion in-game encyclopedia, set in 0 ABY, claims that Rix only deals in information less than twenty-four hours old; while Star Wars: Rebellion: Prima's Official Strategy Guide more broadly states that Rix's information is "usually" less than twenty-four hours old. This article attempts to reconcile these differing accounts as competing in-universe reports.
