A shotgun-esque weapon known as a shock blaster was designed for engagements at short distances. While these blasters were capable of inflicting significant damage when used in close proximity, their effectiveness diminished substantially over greater distances. Consequently, they found their primary application in confined combat scenarios. The CA-87 blaster, which was a modified Jawa ion blaster, represents one such shock blaster model that saw action during the Galactic Civil War by soldiers serving in both the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire.
