Shylar

Shylar was a Human female Jedi Master who dedicated her life to the service of the Jedi Order throughout the duration of the Clone Wars. In the year 22 BBY, she undertook a dangerous mission: to infiltrate the central base of operations of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, led by the Sith Lord and head of state, Count Dooku. Unfortunately, Shylar's attempt was unsuccessful, and she was captured. Subsequently, she was subjected to extreme torture which led to her death at the hands of Dooku and his Dark Jedi accomplice, Kadrian Sey. Quinlan Vos, a fellow Jedi and former romantic partner of Shylar's, was unable to intervene and rescue her, as he was operating undercover as a spy within Dooku's inner circle for the Jedi.

Biography

Shylar, a Force-sensitive Human female, lived during the final years of the Galactic Republic. She underwent extensive training within the Jedi Order, eventually rising to the esteemed rank of Jedi Master. During her younger years, Shylar shared a romantic connection with another Jedi, Quinlan Vos. However, due to the Order's strict prohibition against attachments, they ultimately ended their relationship. The Clone Wars erupted in 22 BBY, pitting the Republic against the Confederacy of Independent Systems, which was under the command of Count Dooku, a former Jedi who had become a Sith Lord.

Padawans Shylar and Quinlan Vos

A half year into the conflict, Shylar volunteered for a clandestine mission to infiltrate Dooku's headquarters located on the moon of Antar 4, acting as an agent for Jedi Master Tholme. Her mission was compromised, leading to her capture and subsequent brutal torture at the hands of Dooku and his Dark Acolyte, Kadrian Sey, who held her captive within a containment field. Despite the immense suffering, Shylar steadfastly refused to divulge any information about her mission. Dooku, unimpressed by her resilience, continued his interrogation. During one of these agonizing sessions, Vos, who was also undercover within Dooku's inner circle, returned from an assignment. Shylar, upon seeing Vos, erupted in fury, denouncing him as a traitor to the Jedi Order. Vos, knowing that any attempt to help her would expose his own mission, was forced to stand by and witness her torment. Shylar ultimately died as a result of the relentless torture she endured.

After his eventual departure from the Confederacy in 20 BBY, Vos reported back to Tholme and the Council of Reconciliation, the Jedi Order's body responsible for judging fallen Jedi. He recounted his encounter with Shylar in Dooku's retreat, clearing her of any suspicion of treachery, as the Order had been unaware of her true status. Vos also revealed his past relationship with Shylar to the Council. He spent the remainder of the war seeking to atone for his inability to save her.

Personality and traits

Shylar and Quinlan Vos made the difficult choice to end their romantic relationship because it would have required them to abandon the Jedi path. She displayed intense anger and disappointment upon seeing Vos allied with Dooku, the Separatist leader, during the Clone Wars, unleashing insults and curses upon him. She demonstrated incredible resilience, enduring extreme torture without revealing any information to Dooku. Shylar had brown hair and eyes, and her skin was fair.

Behind the scenes

Shylar's first appearance was in Jedi: Count Dooku (2003), the fourth issue of the Star Wars: Jedi comic series, which was written by John Ostrander and illustrated by Jan Duursema. Shylar also made a subsequent appearance, albeit in a flashback, in the Republic 71 comic (2004), which was also created by Ostrander and Duursema.
