Silly Squadron

Silly Squadron was not an actual, formally recognized unit within the Rebel Alliance's organizational structure. The moniker originated with Garik "Face" Loran during the naming process for "Gray Squadron" (which became Wraith Squadron). Reportedly, he was experiencing hunger at the time, leading to another suggestion: "Dinner Squadron." Kell Tainer later adopted the name to refer to a specific maneuver employed during the Battle of Folor. This tactic was designed to divert the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Implacable from its objective of reaching Folor Base and uncovering the transport Borleias, which was delayed due to necessary engine repairs.

The fake Millennium Falcon ploy

Kell and Runt amplified the output of their transponder systems and shields, projecting a false sensor reading that suggested the presence of two X-wings. Simultaneously, Blue Nine (Dorset Konnair) and Blue Ten (Tetengo Noor) of Blue Squadron, piloting RZ-1 A-wing interceptors, maintained a tight formation and modulated their shield power. This created a unique and confusing sensor signature, preventing definitive identification of their vessels.

Subsequently, the quartet of pilots utilized a compromised encryption key, known to be deciphered by the forces of former Imperial Admiral Apwar Trigit, to transmit fabricated communications. This essentially amounted to broadcasting in the clear. The pilots deliberately impersonated prominent figures (Kell acting as Tycho Celchu and Konnair as Leia Organa), with the intention of misleading Trigit into believing he was engaging with Rogue Squadron and the Millennium Falcon. The false transmissions indicated the "Falcon" was struggling to achieve escape velocity. The Admiral fell for the deception and repositioned his forces to intercept the "Falcon", allowing the Borleias the time needed for repairs and subsequent liftoff.

Upon discovering the ruse, Trigit retaliated by ordering a turbolaser barrage on the area where the four starfighters were concealed. However, Runt's exceptional piloting skills, attributed to his "student mind," ensured the safe escape of all involved. Later, Wedge Antilles drew inspiration from Silly Squadron's actions, leading to the creation of the Millennium Falsehood and the missions undertaken by that unit.
