Blue Squadron, a New Republic starfighter squadron during the Galactic Civil War, operated under the command of General Edor Crespin. This squadron specialized in training RZ-1 A-wing interceptor pilots and collaborated with Wraith Squadron during the Hunt for Zsinj. Later in its service, Blue Squadron played a crucial role by providing protective cover for the evacuation during the Battle of Calamari.
As a New Republic training unit, Blue Squadron consisted of RZ-1 A-wing interceptor pilots whose starfighters sported a distinctive white paint scheme with blue stripes and white triangle markings. These fighters were equipped with advanced targeting and defensive capabilities, along with proton torpedos, which compensated for the limited shielding they possessed.
By 10 ABY, specifically during the Battle of Calamari, Blue Squadron had been assigned to Pinnacle Base within the Cyax system. It was also at this time that the squadron transitioned to using T-65 X-wing starfighters.
During the Galactic Civil War, Blue Squadron of the New Republic engaged in training exercises at Folor Base alongside Wraith Squadron. Under the leadership of General Edor Crespin, the squadron participated in both offensive and defensive operations with Wraith Squadron throughout the campaign against Warlord Zsinj's Empire.
The discovery of the Imperial Star Destroyer Implacable, aligned with Warlord Zsinj, disrupted a navigational exercise conducted by Wraith Squadron. Upon receiving notification of the Star Destroyer's presence, Blue Leader General Crespin initiated preparations for the evacuation of Folor, tasking Gold Squadron's A-wings with escorting three GR-75 medium transports out of the system, while Blue and Wraith Squadrons were to remain and delay the enemy. Admiral Apwar Trigit, the commanding officer of the Star Destroyer, was misled into bombarding the moon located one-hundred-and-eighty degrees away from the actual base location, allowing two of the transports to escape. However, the third transport, Borleias, experienced a malfunction, requiring the starfighter squadrons to engage the enemy and buy it time. Following a suggestion from Wraith Leader Commander Wedge Antilles, the two squadrons entered the lunar crevasse known as the "Pig Trough," dispatching Blue Nine Dorset Konnair and Blue Ten Tetengo Noor—along with Wraiths Five and Six—as forward scouts. Despite their superior speed, the Blue Squadron pilots arrived after the Wraiths and focused their visual sensors on the Imperials' anticipated position. Noor was the first to detect the Implacable's TIE complement. By transmitting the attacker's expected point of interception with the trench to Folor Base, the pilots devised a plan to remove the Star Destroyer from the battle. Blue Nine and Ten flew wing-to-wing, modulated their shields, and mimicked the communications encryption of the Millennium Falcon. Taking the bait of the high-profile target, the Star Destroyer pursued the false lead.
As Implacable's six TIE squadrons traversed the Pig Trough, Blue Squadron emerged from the fissure, overtaking the X-wings of Wraith Squadron to engage the TIE/sa bombers and their TIE/LN starfighter escorts. Amidst the chaotic battle, a pilot with the call sign Blue Four mistakenly believed that a squadron mate, "Blue Three," had been killed, only to be reunited later. After Borleias jumped to hyperspace, the New Republic squadrons disengaged, and the "Millennium Falcon" group ceased their deception. While the evacuation of Folor succeeded, Blue Squadron suffered the loss of five pilots, and most of the remaining starfighters sustained significant damage.
The ambush over Ession saw Implacable lured in as the culmination of Wraith Squadron's impersonation of the crew of the Zsinj-aligned CR90 corvette Night Caller. Blue Squadron, along with Rogue and Green Squadrons, deployed from the derelict Super Transport VI Red Feathers after infiltrating the planet's security, as Red Feathers disintegrated in Ession's gravity. General Crespin's A-wings joined the Wraiths in combat, chasing Implacable's TIEs as they fled Ession to defend the Star Destroyer. "Blue Nine" destroyed a TIE/IN interceptor that was pursuing Wraith Five Kell Tainer before rejoining her wingman, "Blue Ten". Crespin, along with Myn Donos and Wraith Nine, pursued Admiral Trigit and his bodyguards, offering the fleeing interceptor flight the opportunity to surrender. When his offer was declined, the squadron leader engaged and destroyed the admiral's wingmates, while Donos eliminated Trigit himself.
In 10 ABY, Blue Squadron, now equipped as an X-wing battle group, was dispatched from Pinnacle Base by Admiral Ackbar along with Green Squadron to provide cover for the evacuation of Calamari. Their mission was to escort the inhabitants of the planet, which was being devastated by the reborn Emperor's World Devastators, to the water world of Da Soocha.
In 17 ABY, Blue Squadron was able to participate in the Battle of Almania because other X-wing squadrons were grounded due to sabotage involving astromech droids armed with explosives.
The A-wing starfighters of Blue Squadron were initially depicted using a miniature featuring art by Ralph McQuarrie in the initial release of the Star Wars PocketModel TCG in June 19, 2007.
