This military assault on the planet of Carida was orchestrated by Han Solo during the year 1 BBY.
Following the successful liberation of Mon Calamari slaves during the Assault above Corulag, Rebel command learned that the blueprints for Mon Calamari Star Cruisers, seized by the Empire, were secured at an Imperial installation on Carida. Retrieval of these plans would enable the construction of star cruisers capable of contending with Imperial Star Destroyers. A direct, large-scale attack against the heavily fortified planet was deemed a near certain failure. Therefore, a smaller, more subtle raid was chosen.
Mon Mothma issued a request for assistance from smugglers, promising payment for a mission, without disclosing its specific nature. Predictably, Han Solo and Chewbacca, individuals with whom she had prior dealings, responded. After they demanded increased compensation to account for damage sustained by their vessel during earlier Rebel missions, Mon Mothma stated that the Millennium Falcon would not even need to leave the ground. Instead, the smuggling duo were transported aboard an Imperial vessel.
Upon disembarking from the ship, Han Solo determined that the most probable location for the schematics was within a cargo storage zone. However, this area was heavily defended by Turbolaser batteries, prompting them to target a power generator supplying energy to the turrets.
After engaging in combat with numerous stormtroopers and automated defenses, in addition to destroying an Imperial barracks and two Imperial Model Edu A-34 officer training facilities, they encountered several unoccupied TIE Maulers. At Han's prompting, Chewbacca commandeered one of these vehicles, employing it to eliminate additional Imperial stormtroopers.
However, their progress was impeded by four AT-ST walkers. Han suggested acquiring an alternative vehicle to counter the AT-STs. A solution presented itself nearby: an unattended AT-AT walker. Seizing control of the AT-AT, they neutralized the AT-STs, and the group advanced toward the main thoroughfare. A contingent of Stormtroopers and AT-STs was dispatched to confront the rebel walker, but they were destroyed. The power generator, along with a communications uplink station, was subsequently destroyed.
Proceeding on foot for the remainder of the distance, the pair successfully obtained the plans and resolved to commandeer a transport for their escape. However, enemy reinforcements materialized. Fortunately, the smugglers evaded the Imperial forces and absconded with the blueprints.
The operation resulted in a significant victory for the Rebel Alliance. Besides inflicting damage on the Academy of Carida without incurring any casualties, the rebels recovered crucial technical documents. This acquisition enabled them to construct capital ships capable of challenging the Imperial Navy.
Nevertheless, Han Solo and Chewbacca sought to distance themselves from the Rebel Alliance as much as possible. Furthermore, the Empire assembled a substantial naval force with the objective of capturing Mon Calamari and obliterating the shipyards before additional capital ships could be manufactured.
This engagement served as the tenth mission within the Rebel campaign of the 2006 video game Star Wars: Empire at War.
